John Maurice Fontaine

John’s Journey “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” John Maurice Fontaine blessed our lives with his love, laughter and presence for 48 years until his earthly departure on June 11th, 2023. Born to Brenda Whittington White and John F.H. Fontaine on January 29th, 1975, John lived everyday with the Y.O.L.O. motto. You only live once, and if you’re doing it right once is enough. Growing up, John was affectionately known as Baby John. With sun kissed skin and a smile that could light up any room. Baby John was a favorite of many, including his Grandmother Peggy Fox. As a child he loved going to the arcade and attending cookouts at his Aunt Patsy’s. Spending times with his family and friends kept a smile on his face and in his heart. John was educated by Maryland’s Somerset County Public School System and received his GED from Penn Foster. At age 11, Baby John hit a major accomplishment and became a big brother to Travis. He showed him the ropes with many things but always reminded` him to have fun and never kiss and tell. Proverbs 18:22 says “He that finds a wife finds a good thing.” In 1990, John met Valerie Taylor and after some good times, rides in her “Smooth V” Firebird, a coke and a smile; they became inseparable. Love Won. In August 1995, John was promoted to a father. Welcoming his only son Jon’te Fontaine into the world. Then on March 24, 1999, two hearts became one and Val and John were married. The two remained as one until her untimely passing. John was a man with many talents. From being a comedian, story teller and even a Mr. Fix It; he was always there to help; as long as you asked him. He was employed with Fooks Funeral Home and Grant’s Service Center for 12 years. Outside of being a locksmith; John was an unofficial ambassador for TikToc; bringing smiles and laughter to all of his viewers. After adopting the nickname Studd, John devoted his time to his beloved car clubs. After serving years with WeHere Auto Club he became the senior road captain for dRAG DIFFERENT AUTO CLUB. He loved riding out locally but especially state to state to see the different clubs. He loved seeing the people in the community smile when he would ride through in the line up. Having his system turned up and riding with his arm out the window was his signature. He will be forever remembered by, popping up ready to ride with no destination in mind but just because it's nice out. Outside of being the life of a party and always on the go, John enjoyed simply being around family and friends, cruising, driving in his beloved “Studd Life”, listening to his old school raps and eating. Studd looooovvvvveeeed to eat. If you said food was involved you could almost guarantee his face would be in the place. Whether it was driving to Crisfield for crab cakes and sweet potato pies, dinning at Dayton’s or simply crossing town to his mom’s for a pan of rice pudding, Baby John loved to eat. Whether you called him John, Baby John or Studd the best part about him was making memories with him. A good heart has stopped beating, but a heart that has touched so many lives can’t help but to live on in those it loved. John was preceded in death by devoted wife Valerie Fontaine. Grandmothers Annie Mae Fontaine and Peggy Whittington, Grandfathers, John A. Whittington and Thomas J. Fontaine Sr. and one sister-in-law Ashley Whittington. John leaves to cherish his memories: a loving son, Jon’te Fontaine of Salisbury MD, his parents, mother Brenda (David) White of Salisbury MD, father Sgt 1st Class John F H Fontaine Sr Snellville, GA. In-laws, Arthur and Frances Taylor, and Van and Jessica Taylor. Godmother, Karen Robinson, Salisbury MD, Sisters Adriane Mclean Fontaine, of North Carolina, Jenae (Juan) Little of Virgina, Brothers Travis (Toni) Whittington of Salisbury MD, Dominic, Christopher and John FH Fontaine Jr of North Carolina. Aunts, Annie “Patsy” Johnson of Crisfield MD and Maria Fontaine of Stockbridge GA. Uncles Thomas J. Fontaine Jr Marion Station MD and Clifton (Maxine) Fontaine Sr of Alpharetta, GA . A sweetheart-girlfriend, Janiel Bowen. Devoted cousins TinaBug, LaWann and Tony. Special friends Vanessa and Mitchell (Killer) Bailey. His brother and sisters of Drag Different Auto Club and host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition, he leaves many miles and memories with his heart on wheels, GMC Yukon Denali, Studd Life. Because it’s so hard to say good bye, we say see you later.
