William H. West Sr.

On Sunday, March 30, 2014, William Howard West Sr.’s loving spirit went to dwell with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. William was born September 26, 1935 in Harborton, VA to the late Howard and Annie Mae West. He was the second oldest of six children. William received his education in the Accomack County Public School System. He moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1950 at the tender age of 15. It was during the time that he lived in South Philly in 1953, that he met the love of his life, Juanita Williams. They were united in holy matrimony in January of 1967 and seven children came from this union. Anyone who knew William knew he was a dependable, loving, and hardworking man. Williams became a entrepreneur at a young age, owning various businesses ranging from a ice cream parlor to a gas station and two scrap yards. He made sure he had money on hand for whenever or whatever he needed. In addition to being a great provider, William was a loving and caring father figure to everyone who came into his life. This earned him the nickname of “Pop” to many. He was the backbone that kept the family together. When William entered the pearly gates, he met those who preceded him in death: two brothers, Michael and Floyd; two sisters, Edna and Alice; two grandsons, Dwayne and Corey and three brothers-in-law, Thomas, Roland, Dory Sr. William leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Juanita West of Dover, DE; his children, William Jr. (Johnniemae) of Augusta, GA, Doretha, Ricardo (Laquita), Annette, Vanessa (Aaron), Alonzo (Rochelle) of Dover, DE and Anthony of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Margget; one brother, John (Diane); twenty-one grandchildren, Veron, Erion, Tyrese, Arese (Sabrina), Warren (Marquita), Nasir (Sylvia), Antwon, Danina, Ricardo Jr. (Tiyana), Raheem, Kasha, Calvin, Jamar, Lamar, Deja, Jessie, Marquise, Shaquille, Dominque, Raven, and Brian Jr.; forty great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; one adopted daughter, Queen Harris and numerous friends from his residence in Capital Park.
