William Harrison Cooper Sr.

WILLIAM’S JOURNEY William Harrison Cooper, Sr., son of the late Harrison Cooper and Bernett Whye Cooper, was born on October 22, 1974. Billy, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, departed this life on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland. He received his education in the public school system of Kent County at Henry Highland Garnett in Chestertown, Maryland. Billy worked various jobs growing up, but worked as a laborer and Fork Lift Driver for many years at Chestertown Brick Yard as well as Chestertown Lumber Company. Billy professed Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior a long time ago and often shared his testimony about how God brought him through many dangers, toils and snares. He thoroughly enjoy serving and assisting at Mount Olive Church for the monthly food drive. His favorite gospel groups were the Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Canton Spirituals and The William Brothers. His favorite gospel songs were Walk Around Heaven all Day, I'm Just a Nobody and The Heavenly Choir. He was joined in holy matrimony to Nora Louise Hicks on Saturday, November 22, 2003, but they shared a total of thirty-two (32) years together. Billy enjoyed small family gatherings, manicuring his yard, singing and listening to oldies but goodies tunes and playing Bingo. He was a very snazzy-jazzy dresser, especially during his younger years. He was also a Die Hard Football Fan, particularly the New England Patriots or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wherever the great Tom Brady was playing!! He was preceded in death by four siblings, Catherine Whye, Reverend Helen Butler, James “Jimmy” Turner and Philip “Link” Whye. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife, Nora Louise Cooper; one son, William Cooper, Jr. of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Shawntel Collins of Baltimore, Maryland and adopted daughter/granddaughter, Ja’ciah Cooper of Butlertown, Maryland; three stepchildren, Montrail Montgomery, Shelita Hicks and Dantrail Hicks; four grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Black of Pondtown, Maryland; sister-niece, Dora Butler-Wilson (Larry) of Butlertown, Maryland; two step brothers, William “Bill B” Green of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Robert Green of Ewingtown, Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Dock and Helen Whye; one brother-in-law, Tony Hick; eight nephews; two nieces; devoted nephew, Marcellus Black, Sr.; cousin, Richard Walker and a host of relatives and friends.
