Thelma Y Hollis

Thelma Edna-Lee Strand Young Disharoon Hollis of Cambridge went to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, August 8, 2015. God was at the University of Maryland Medical Center at Dorchester waiting with His rainbow over the hospital as she made her transition. She was born on June 17, 1928 in Accomac, Virginia to the late Lena Young Strand and Thomas Strand. She attended Pine Street School and was a graduate of St. Clair High School, Class of 1945. Thelma was employed by Phillips Packing Plant, The Sewing Factory and retired from Airpax Inc. She was a faithful member of New Revelations Baptist Church where she loved her church family. Thelma who was affectionately known as (Mom, Nanny, Aunt Buck, Aunt Thelma) enjoyed hobbies that included but were not limited to cooking, gardening, crocheting and feeding others. She was a caring, loving and giving person. She always had a hug, positive and uplifting word for everyone. Her smile was infectious. She especially enjoyed spending Sundays with her great granddaughter, Ashia, who she faithfully made sure attended church. She was also a superior supporter of Ashia’s praise dancing. You could always find these two after church eating out somewhere, from Cambridge to Salisbury. She enjoyed being outside. You could often see her sitting in her yard enjoying the outdoors while planting flowers and plants. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands: Albert Young Sr., Andrew Disharoon and GoGil Hollis; Sisters: Pearlena Humaine, Alice Thompson, and Georgia Layton. She leaves to cherish fond memories: Sons: Albert Young (Geri) Spring Lake, Michigan, Barry Young Bloomington, Illinois; Brother: Edgar Strand (Margaret) Baltimore; Sister: Ruth Price; Grandchildren: Mark Young (Tyra) Cambridge, Tyvonia Young Pensacola, Fl., Joann Hubbard (Robert) Washington, DC, Stephanie Comer (David) Columbia, MD, Gail Mcfadgen (Wayne) Indian Head, MD, Roshawn Montague (James) Waldorf, MD, Lonnel Young (Danielle) Washington, DC, Spyane Young Philadelphia, PA, Barry Young, Jr. (Janelle) Louisville, KY, Kenneth Young Alexandria, VA; 19 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; Very special friends: Norma Lee Disharoon, Lorraine Brown, Patricia Stanley and Myra Williams.
