Thelma Celestia Evans

The Journey of Thelma C. (Roberts) Evans Thelma Celestia (Roberts) Evans, a woman of unwavering faith, enduring strength, and boundless love, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the age of ninety-three (93). Thelma was born on December 19, 1932, in Columbia, Delaware where she also attended Owens Corner School. Her life was rooted in family, hard work and service to others. She was the baby daughter of the late William and Lucy Roberts. Affectionately known as "Aunt Thelma" by many, she was loved for her warm heart, welcoming spirit, and unforgettable home cooking. Her chicken and dumplings and homemade rolls were family favorites that brought loved ones together around the table and created cherished memories for generations. Throughout her life, Thelma was a dedicated worker. She was employed at the Delmar Sewing Factory, Mr. Curley's, and Cherry Street Laundry, where her exceptional wash-and-fold service earned her a wonderful reputation in the community. She concluded her working career as a Health Care Assistant with Delmarva Home Care Solutions, Inc., where she continued her lifelong commitment to caring for others. A devoted woman of faith, Thelma was the second-oldest member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church. She faithfully served as a member of the church choir, the United Women of Faith, and as the church historian. Her steadfast dedication to her church family and her love for the Lord was evident. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucy Roberts, her beloved husband, Leolon Evans, her seven sisters, Insley, Mae, Dorothy, Iris, Pearl, Claritta, and Iantha, a special cousin Viola Bates and her former husband Henry Johnson. Thelma leaves cherished memories with: her loving children, Brenda (Lindwood) Dennis, Alice (Eddie Powell) Dennis, and Anthony (Malina) Johnson; grandchildren, Tyronna, Morine, Kevin, Ashley, Haven, Reonna, Gavin, Courtnee and Antonio; nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Phyllis, Lavern, Janice, Albert and Kenneth, a lifelong friend, Lucille Bacon along with a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory. Thelma's legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, tireless service, and genuine hospitality. She touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit.
