Susie Anna Brooks

Obituary Susie Anna Savage Brooks, affectionately known as Doll, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. God blessed her to be ninety (90) years young. (Honor your father and your mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee). Exodus 20:12 Susie was born on March 4, 1932 in Northampton County, Virginia to the late Ethel Savage and Casey Wesly. She graduated from the Northampton County public school system in 1950. She accepted Christ at an early age and began her Christian journey at Mount Sinai in Fairview, Virginia. She later joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Eastville, Virginia where she remained an active, faithful member until her health began to fail. She would always sit in the middle of the church, clapping her hands or patting her feet. Susie’s favorite past times included spending quality time with family and friends. She loved riding around the community, having family gatherings, dancing, playing cards and cooking. Even though she was not a licensed driver, she knew how to get where she wanted to go. She loved walking and writing poetry. Susie was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Susie was the Matriarch of the family and single-handedly took care of not only her children, but also her grandchildren. She also became the caregiver for her siblings, when her mother suddenly went home to be with the Lord. She did not hesitate to step in financially, physically, mentally, or spiritually when needed. Susie would often write letters or poems to relatives , telling them how she missed them and often ending her letters with, “Take care of each other and God help us All.” Susie had plenty of conversation, wisdom, and advice. She would have you in stitches with her parables, stories, and phrases. Despite her tiny stature, Susie was not afraid to address a situation or an issue she felt strongly about. She loved us all unconditionally. Susie was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Casey, her son, Alvin L. Brooks, two sisters, Christina Gayle Galloway and Carrie Mae Brown and three brothers, Walter Morris, James Galloway and Lawrence Galloway. Susie leaves to cherish many fond memories: her daughters, Harriette Cypress of Machipongo, VA, Juanita Brooks of Apollo Beach, FL and Ethel Brooks of Machipongo, VA and sons, Abraham Brooks (Jackie) of Newport News, VA and Bruce Brooks of Baltimore, MD; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Marsheila Spady (Larry) of Hampton, VA; sisters-in-law, Sara Morris of Cheriton VA, and Juanita Galloway Portsmouth, VA, and a host of Nieces, Great Niece, Nephews, Great Nephews, and Cousins.
