Sherwood Sampson

Sherwood Sampson, of Seaford, Delaware, was born on Saturday, September 18, 1948, to the late Alice Sampson and James Matthews, of Seaford, Delaware. Sherwood departed his life on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at home in Seaford, Delaware. Sherwood was a hard worker. He worked with his sister, Marion Sampson and his brother-in-law, Wendell Jones, Sr., at Jones and Sampson Enterprise in Hebron, Maryland. He also drove truck for Richard Harrison All Shore Paving Company, in Seaford, Delaware. Sherwood also managed the Marathon Inn, in Laurel, Delaware. In addition to working hard, he knew how to play hard. He enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. Sherwood loved the great outdoors. You would always see him somewhere cutting grass on his riding lawn mower or doing some type of yard work. He was your all around handy man. Sherwood was full of life and he truly enjoyed living. He was loved by many and he loved many. He got along well with everyone. Sherwood Sampson you are truly going to be missed. Sherwood was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sampson; his parents; four sisters, Ethel M. Sampson, Marion L. Sampson, Monica Perkins and Bonnie Gregory; one brother, Larry Gaines; one great niece, Shanitta Sampson; and a host of aunts and uncles. Sherwood leaves to cherish his memories, his fiancée, Debbie Carmean of Seaford, DE; four brothers, George Sampson and Gary Gaines (Clissonia) both of Seaford, DE and Warren and Donald Gaines both of Newark, DE; two sisters, Jamisine Matthews of Seaford, DE and Mary Helen Jenkins of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren, Ja’Seon Nichols, Ja’mari Beasley, Jaden Lee King-Miguel, Jasmine and Aliyah Carmean, Kerria and Anthony Brittingham of Seaford, DE; 12 nieces and nephews, Ethel “Niecy” Sampson Spencer, Sherree Snead, James F. Sampson, Staccato Sampson, Timothy Sampson, James “Bally” Sampson , Sherwood Winder, Russell Winder, George Winder, Emmanuel Winder, Paula Bailey and Debbie Farlow; five special friends, Forrest Williams, William Smack, Wayne Trammell, Miloah “Doogie” Johnson and Wendell Jones Sr., whom Sherwood always called his brother-in-law; and a host of great nieces, nephew and cousins.
