Robert L. Murray

Robert Lee Murray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was the son of the late Reverend Thomas Simpson and Thelma Louise Murray. Robert Lee was born on January 16, 1936 in Ridgley, Maryland. He departed from earthly labor to eternal rest on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at his home in Bridgeville, Delaware, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years of age. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Geneva Melvina Murray or “Mel”, as she was affectionately called by her husband. Robert Lee graduated from Lockerman High School in Denton, Maryland. He served as an airman in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed Nascar racing and marching with his Masonic Lodge brothers from Morning Star Lodge #10 of Laurel, DE and as a 32nd Degree Mason with the G. Oscar Carrington Consistory of Milton, DE. He also enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his neighbors, friends and visitors. Robert Lee was an outstanding and dedicated truck driver for 53 years. "The Rolling Stone" was his CB handle. He loved driving trucks and continued to roll along until his health demanded that he stop. He was a valued member of Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown, Delaware where he accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Rick Betts. He was kind and loving to his family and made many friends throughout his lifetime. Robert was a beloved and respected neighbor and member of his community, and will be truly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory, seven children: Carol L. Murray-Mills (Pierre) of Bridgeville, DE; Lavonne R. Miller of Philadelphia, PA; Keith A. Ringgold (Barbara) of Denton, MD; Renita Ringgold of Seaford, DE; Dana L Wilson (Elwood) of Easton, MD; Honoria D. Smith (Ronald) of Newark, DE and Richard D. Wright (Kim) of Tampa, FL; one sister, Sherna Newlan of Smyrna, DE; four uncles, Samuel Murray (Lillian) of Miami, FL, Charles Murray (Vanetta) of Wye Mills, MD, Levi Murray of Queen Anne, MD and Joseph Murray of Ridgely, MD; one aunt, Evelyn White of Ridgely, MD; two sisters-in-law, Ida Mae Brown and Sarah Staten both of Denton, MD; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of loyal relatives, neighbors and friends.
