Robert Boyd Hayman

His Life Story Robert Boyd Hayman, also known to many as “Butch,” was born on January 27, 1947 in Lottsburg, Virginia. He transitioned from earth to glory on Friday, March 20, 2026 at his home in Pocomoke City, Maryland after a lengthy illness, surrounded by loved ones. Robert received his formal education in Somerset County Public Schools, where he studied art as his vocational focus. After high school, Robert worked various jobs such as delivering seafood in Crisfield, Maryland and working at Chesapeake Plywood in Pocomoke City, Maryland, but his passion was working as a cook at many restaurants along the eastern shore. On December 27, 1984, Robert married the love of his life, Jeanette Schoolfield of Pocomoke City, Maryland, and they remained together for forty-one (41) years. Robert loved to shower his wife with gifts of love and small surprises. Those tokens of love will surely be missed. Butch enjoyed TV and movies, especially karate movies and anything involving Chuck Norris. Butch would have been thrilled to know that he and Chuck Norris transitioned to be with the Lord on the same day. A pastime that spans decades would be the Maryland lottery, Virginia lottery or the lottery in any and every state he could play. He definitely was not going to miss going to the corner store to play his numbers on a daily basis. As far as him winning, I guess that was the best kept secret, that wasn't discussed. You would always see Butch rolling around Pocomoke on his scooter, stopping into the 50 Plus Senior Center where he was very popular, due to his quick wit and continuous jokes. He loved to cut up. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Hayman and Robert John Payne, sister, Mary Lee Hayman, children, Claudette Cropper-Byrd, and Malcolm Cropper and both his maternal and paternal grandparents. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Jeanette Hayman of Pocomoke City, MD; one daughter, Yvonne Waters of Pocomoke City, MD; one son, Tony Waters (Burlessa) of Frankford, DE; four sisters, Beverly Eskridge of Pikesville, MD, Minnie Hayman, and Hope Coursey, both of Port Norris, NJ and Vanessa Heath of Millville, NJ; two brothers, Larry Heath (Brenda) of Port Norris, NJ and Peter Heath, Jr. of Millville, NJ; one uncle, Eugene Brown of Lewisetta, VA; three aunts, Minnie Hayman of Penns Grove, NJ, Margaret Purnell-Hayman of Chesilhurst, NJ and Madaline Hayman of Neptune, NJ; two special cousins, Maggie Wallace of Millville, NJ and Roxanne Beauchamp of Neptune, NJ; one brother-in-law, Linwood Schoolfield (Shirley) of Pocomoke City, MD; twelve grandchildren; a plethora of great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
