Robert Briggs Hamilton

Robert Briggs Hamilton, 86, of Salisbury, MD departed this life on the evening of Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital. Robert Briggs Hamilton was born August 22, 1937 in Paw Paw, West Virginia to the late Forrest Briggs Hamilton and the late Lucille (Bullett) Hamilton Holmes. He was the 4th child of 5 born to the Hamilton family. Robert attended the public schools of Paw Paw, West Virginia and Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon moving to Salisbury, Maryland, Robert was employed by Steins of Salisbury and later employed by Campbell’s Soup Company as a Line Supervisor from 1964 until retiring on February 1, 1994. Robert had three sons (Robert, Sr., Johnathan, and Jerry, Sr.) from his first marriage to Arlena Holmes. In 1985 he united in holy matrimony with the late Maggie (Ames) Brown. He was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob. Robert was blessed with many talents from the piano to his vocal skills, and last but certainly not least his playing of the guitar. You could often hear Robert singing or playing guitar with various gospel quartets on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He also wrote songs and dutifully and willingly served and supported church fundraisers and auxiliaries. Robert enjoyed playing guitar with other family members who played and anyone else who would allow him to play and sing. He also enjoyed listening to gospel quartets like the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, playing music, and playing baseball with the Salisbury Tigers and softball for the Campbell’s Soupers. He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons; Johnathan Hamilton of Salisbury, MD, Jerry Hamilton, Sr. of New Jersey, and Alfred Brown of Salisbury, MD. He also leaves two sisters; Kathleen I. Leatherbury (Samuel) of Salisbury, MD and Carolyn Bungy of Wilmington, DE. Also left to cherish his memory from his blended family are seventy-five grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren. His life will be forever cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends including his longtime neighbors and close friends Edward and Virginia Williams. Robert B. Hamilton was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie (Ames) Brown Hamilton, parents Forrest Briggs Hamilton and Lucille (Bullett) Hamilton Holmes, and Robert Holmes, one sister, Helen L. (Hamilton) Brown, one brother Charles Forrest Hamilton, and two sons Robert A.B. Hamilton, Sr. and James Brown, Sr.
