Raymond Alfred Johnson

RAYMOND’S JOURNEY... Raymond Alfred Johnson, Sr., affectionately known as “Pete,” was born on March 31, 1929 to the late William and Tryphosia “Foster” Johnson in Snow Hill, Maryland. Pete gained his wings on December 12, 2022 at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland surrounded by his family. He has fought a good fight and is now taking his eternal rest. Pete was educated at Mt. Wesley School and attended through the 6th grade. His Christian education was received at Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member until his death. Pete was a member of Methodist Men’s Choir until his health began to decline. He truly loved traveling with the group and uplifting the Word of God through song. As a very particular and serious person, Pete would triple check to make sure he wore the correct shirt color when singing with the Methodist Men. Pete married Betty Ann Dennis on April 17, 1948. This union bore three children, Mary, Jacqueline, and Marigold. Pete worked a variety of jobs including: Playland, Shockley’s Egg Hatchery, Ralston Purina and Eastern Animal Foods (from where he retired). His last place of employment was Plim Plaza Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland, where he worked for over twenty (20) years. More than anything, Pete loved his family. Attending the bi-annual Johnson Family reunion was one of his favorite things. When the reunion was held outside of Snow Hill, Pete was packed and ready to hit the road several days early. He was always the “life of the party” during the reunions, dancing and singing. Everyone, both young and seasoned, loved to spend time with “Uncle Pete.” Cherishing fond memories are: his children, Mary (Avery) Purnell of Newark, Maryland, Marigold (Kenny) Morris of Berlin, Maryland, Vanessa (Wayne) Ballard and Jennifer Ames, both of Snow Hill, Maryland, Sherron (Lisa) Stevenson, Sr. of Manassas, Virginia, Antione (Lenice) Stevenson of Dale City, Virginia, Darryl (NanNette) Stevenson, Sr. of Quantico, Maryland, Darlene Banks of Ellendale, Delaware and Raymond Foreman of Millsboro, Delaware; one Goddaughter, Shalonda (Brian) Kelly of Baltimore, Maryland; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pete was preceded in death by two children, Jacqueline Tindley and Raymond Johnson, Jr., a granddaughter, Terri Bruinton, a grandson, Sven Conquest and his siblings, Mildred Davis, Mary Milbourne, Ruth Stansbury, Milton Johnson, Sr., and William “Bill” Johnson.
