Mary Dorothy Tolbert

Mary Dorothy Tolbert was born on October 24, 1950 in Waynesboro, Georgia, to the late Matthew and Lizzie Julia Irvin. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2020. On December 8, 1968, she was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Richard Tolbert. They were married for fifty-two (52) years. Mary received her education at Waynesboro High School in Burke County in Waynesboro, Georgia. She received her nursing certifications in 1973. She was employed at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) for thirty-five (35) years as a nursing assistant. She retired from PRMC in 2008. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1974 and was a faithful member of Cathedral of Restoration. She loved to rise early in the morning to study her Bible. Her favorite scripture was, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). She was very encouraging and did not hesitate to speak the truth about the Word of God. Mary was known to her family as “Mae Dot.” She loved and cared for her family and always made sure they were taken care of. She enjoyed traveling back home to Waynesboro to spend time with family. She loved cooking and shopping and especially enjoyed making pineapple upside down cake, cheesecake, homemade chocolate chip cookies and candy. Mary leaves to cherish precious memories: her husband, Richard Tolbert of Salisbury, Maryland; her son, Roy Tolbert (La’Sheila) of Waynesboro, Georgia; her daughter, Lawanda Brown (Cophen) of Laurel, Delaware; seven grandchildren, Tianca Tolbert, Tishauna Tolbert, Kim-yata Tolbert, Breonna Williams, Brandon Kellam, Jr., Cophen Brown III and Christian Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Taniyah Todman, Taneaja Tolbert, Euriah George, Jayleah Ward, Khalil Holden, Jonathan Gray and Taylor Sparrow; two sisters, Annie Jo Houston (Willie) of Waynesboro, Georgia and Jacqueline Jordan (Allen) of Waynesboro, Georgia; four brothers, Clarence Jones of Miami, Florida, Mike Jones of Waynesboro Georgia, Ricky Jones (Patti) of Waynesboro, Georgia, and Steve Jones (Shelia) of Waynesboro, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Lizzie Julia Irvin and one sister, Shirley Jones, grandmother, Anne Bell Lockhart. Mary “Mae Dot” D.
