Mary B. Taylor

At 12:47 a.m., the love of my life and wife for over 45 years, Mary Pamela (Farson) Taylor, passed away from a brain disease at the Delaware Hospice short term facility. Pam was admitted on the 29th of June 2016 with 2 to 3 days left to be with us, but if you know Pam you are not going to tell her what to do. So Pam, just to prove them wrong, stayed with us another two weeks. Pam showed them that she would go when she was ready, not them! Pam was born on Sunday, September 9th 1951 at St. Angus Hospital. Her brother Harry was 7 years old, her brother Richard (Dicky) was 4 and her sister Laura would not come along for another 8 years. She lived on Penhurst Avenue for one month before the family moved to Montbel Avenue in Woodlawn. Pam went to All Saints Catholic School for her first eight years, and then finished her education in public schools. At the young age of 16 her father passed away and she would not get over this loss for the rest of her life. Pam graduated in 1969 from Woodlawn Senior High School. On Saturday, June 12th 1971, Pam married her childhood sweetheart, Joe Taylor. The wedding was held at Joe’s family residents, in the back yard under a grape arber. The reception was also held there with a cookout and with volleyball and other games for younger guest. After four years of economic difficulties Joe re-entered the Army in 1975. Pam would live in Oklahoma, Texas, Germany, back to Texas and then finished her 18 years as a military spouse in Oklahoma. While in Texas, after six years of trying Pam was finally blessed with a child, a daughter, Jaime Elaine. While following her husband around the world, Pam worked for the government in Texas, which required a Secret Clearance, at the military PX, and the NCO Club in Germany. After six years in Germany Pam returned to Texas, bought a home and worked for the Copperas Cove Water Department. With only two years left in Joe’s military career she had to watch him go off to war, Desert Storm. On New Year’s Day, 1991, Joe would meet Vice President Dan Quale while at a phone center where he asked the VP to talk to his wife. Pam was on the phone with him for over 30 minutes, she said that if he was ever in Texas to stop by for lunch (hot dogs and fries). On February 15, 1991 the Secret Service for Dan Quale notified Pam that he would be in Texas and he would like to meet her. After Pam and Jaime listened to his speech they had a one on one with the Vice President of the United States. After the military, Pam moved to Westminster, MD. where she was employed by Intergrated Health Services as a payroll manager. In 2004 Pam moved to Millsboro, DE. In her last twelve years of life she saw the deaths of her grandson, Jacob and her son-in-law Jeff, which were very hard on her. Pam’s death was presumed to be Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease which kills one in a million world wide each year. Pam had family members precede her in death, her father, Harry A. Farson; her mother, Majorie (Noble) Farson; her brother, Harry A. Farson III; her son-in-law, Jefferey W. Bell; and her grandson, Jacob W. Bell. Pam is also survived by her brother, Richard Farson; her sister, Laura Riggens; her daughter, Jaime Taylor Bell; her granddaughter, Jenna Mae Bell; and me, Joseph E. Taylor. Per her request, there will not be a service and the interment of her ashes will be at the Sussex County Veterans Cemetery. Pam served her country 18 years as a spouse of a military soldier. It was easy for me, the service told me what to wear, where to go, what to eat and sometimes who to kill, but Pam, had to take care of the house, bills .cars, Jaime and her schools, plus Pam worked. I had it easy compared to her. At the VA cemetery Pam will be with other spouses waiting for me to join her. Please keep Jaime and Jenna in your thoughts and prayers.
