Mary I. Taylor

The home going celebration of our loved one, Mary Ida Taylor, has left a void in our hearts as she departed this life for our heavenly home on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, DE after suffering a short illness. She was 82 years old. Mary was born a twin on December 24, 1931 in Millsboro, DE to the late Herbert and Florence Burton. Mary received her education within the Millsboro School District. She dedicated a great deal of her time serving as a "right-hand" and "assistant" to her late husband's business, Taylor Upholstery. Mary Taylor was very well-known for her famous homemade Macaroni N' Cheese. She was an excellent cook and along with her husband, Russell served many people with their home-cooked dinners at the Elks Lodge in Milford, DE, where she served as a member for over 40 years. As a housewife, she opened her doors to many friends of the family that came by occasionally just to socialize or to taste her good home cooking. Mary Ida, also known as "Mom", "Mom-Mom" and "Mom Mary", loved to listen to music and was always willing to share a song by singing or dancing. Mary always found time to relax and enjoy time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching old T.V. shows with her children (her favorite was Sanford and Son). She was a beautiful and caring woman who took pride in raising her 15 children including stepchildren. She was extremely likable with her kindhearted ways, not to mention, uplifting others with her humorous jokes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Taylor Sr., of 49 years; three sons, Gordon Taylor, Tyrone Taylor and Robert Taylor; two daughters, Jeanette Beckwith and Joan Moore; three sisters, Frances Hardcastle, Agnes Tankard and Anna Showell and one brother, Herbert Burton Jr. Upon departing this earth, she leaves to mourn her children: Pamela Burton Campbell (GA), Ronald Burton and Michael Taylor (Pam) (all of Milford, DE), Russell "Boogie" Taylor (caregiver), Angela Taylor-Watson (Randy), Sherry Taylor (caregiver) and Denise Taylor (all of Dover, DE), Victoria Taylor (Felton, DE), Joyce Camp (Gordon) (Bronx, NY), Jeraldine Taylor (New Castle, DE), Teresa Bowers (Camden, DE) and one daughter-in-law, Juanita Taylor (Dover, DE); a twin brother, William Burton (PA) and nine additional siblings; Dorothy Byrd (GA), John Burton, Charles Burton, Martha Wise (Junior), Princess Purnell, Nelson Burton (Mary), Oliver Burton (Helen "Sis''), Faye Burton and Joseph Burton (all of DE); 45 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren; also a devoted friend for many years, Sadie Davis (Milford, DE).
