Mary Jane Brummell

Mary Jane Elliott Brummell of Bridgeville, Delaware, suddenly left us on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the age of 80. She was the daughter of Josephine Elliott Weal Mack and Vincent Carey. Mary Jane attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware and graduated with the Class of 1954 as Valedictorian. Mary Jane was a very hard worker, having been employed by the Bargain Store, Acme Markets, Dresser Wayne Industries and retired from the Stockley Center in Georgetown, Delaware after 21 years. Mary Jane was a member and Mother of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, Delaware. She was one of many pillars of Bridgeville who was a loving and caring individual who will be dearly-missed. Mary Jane always looked forward to the family gatherings. We will always remember the joy on her face when the grandchildren and great-great children were running around, she would sit back "giving orders". She loved to decorate her house and yard for all holidays and Christmas was her favorite time of year. Mary Jane loved working in her flower and vegetable garden which she shared with many family and friends, each year. She loved shopping and eating at her favorite restaurant the Chinatown Buffet in Dover. She relished spending time with her friends at the Bridgeville Senior Center, as well as talking on the phone with her many friends and checking on people who were sick or bedridden. Mary Jane spear-headed the annual Mary Jane Brummell Cancer Walk held in May and diligently raised funds for the cause, near and dear to her heart. Preceding her in death was her mother, Josephine Weal Mack and father, Vincent Carey. She was also preceded in death by her sons David and Carlos Brummell, great grandchild, Jalea Burbage, sister, Laverne Weal, sister-in-law, Timpy Weal and brother-in-law, Robert Barnes. Mary Jane will be sorrowfully missed and remembered by her children, Maurice (Emma) Brummell, Alice Brummell, Marilyn (Nelson) Burbage, and Michael (Sharon) Brummell, all of Bridgeville, Delaware. Mary Jane also leaves four brothers: Wardell Weal of Leigh Acres, Florida; Albert (Linda) Weal, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Timothy (Gail) Weal of Seaford, Delaware and James (Gwen) Weal of East New Market, Maryland; two sisters; Joyce Barnes of Chesapeake, Virginia and Alberta (Charles) Smith of Bridgeville, Delaware. She leaves 13 grandchildren, David Brummell III, Ashauntey Brummell, Crystal Brummell, Linwood Brummell, Jeremial Brummell, Sonya Burbage, Nelson Burbage, Jr., Maurice Brummell, Jr., Rasheen Matthews, Shamara Brummell, Michael Brummell, Jr., Lamar Tann, Tlffany Batson, 29 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and special friends.
