Marion T. Holmes

Marion Theoderick Holmes, also known as “Marny” or “Holmesy”, was the son of the late Harvey Melvin Holmes and Mable Acree Holmes. He was born in Ridgely, Maryland on Wednesday, December 12, 1934 and at the age of 81, departed this life on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Marion was educated in the public schools of Caroline County, Maryland, where he graduated from Lockerman High School in 1952. Soon after graduating, Marion was drafted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the states, he joined the Army Reserves. Marion worked at various companies, such as the Campbell Soup Company (Chestertown, MD). He was also employed by Bill Pinkett’s Bus Service (Denton, MD) as a driver and was employed at Kraft Foods in Dover, Delaware, retiring in 1996 after 33 years of employment. On March 17, 1962, Marion became the loving husband of Charlotte Collins. This became a special date for them, as they were married on St. Patrick’s Day. Marion loved the Lord. He and his family always believed that he was one of “God’s miracles”. He was an active member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church, but when he became ill, Marion was no longer able to attend services. Marion served on many boards and committees. He loved singing. His favorite song was, “The Hand of God”, which he was the soloist. He belonged to the Combined Choir, and the United Methodist Men’s Choir. Marion’s interests, aside form his church activities, included: membership in the Prince Hall Mason Olive Branch Lodge #93 and the American Legion Mannie Scott Post 193. Marion was a proud husband, father, and pop-pop. He loved the time he spent with his family, at home and in the Envoy Nursing Home. In addition to Marion’s parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Albert, Melvin, Jr., and Paul Holmes. Marion is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte Holmes; three children, Lenita Rich, Carnez Collins, Sr. and Christonia Holmes; five grandchildren, Richard Rich, III, Carnez Collins, Jr., IraRika Holmes, IraTicia Reed (R’randa, Sr.), Trey’Von Holmes; three great-grandchildren, Carnez Collins, III, R’randa Reed, II and Ra’Niya Reed; one godchild, Doretha Tina Flamer; one sister, Jean Roach; sisters-in-law, Lillian Holmes and Hollisweus Perkins, and brother-in-law, the Rev. Vernon Perkins. Marion also leaves to cherish his memories numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as Ronald (Dickie) Acree, whom had a special place in his heart.
