Marie Hill

Sis. Marie Hill was born on July 29, 1934 in South Carolina. She moved to Delaware in her adult years. Ms. Hill loved to cook and was known for selling her sweet potato pies at Spence’s Bazaar. She had great faith and loved the Lord. For many years, Sis. Hill sang on the radio on the Back to God Broadcast in Dover, and she sang in many churches. In 2000, Sis. Hill joined the Eastern Shore Mass Choir under the Direction of Founder and President, Pastor Norman Hutchins and from 2005-2007, under the direction of Pastor Luther Barnes. Sis. Hill loved the choir and was definitely excited to be part of the ESMC Live CD Recording at DSC. Ms. Hill was a former member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Rev. CV Holmes, Pastor and Victory Crusade Church, now Lighthouse Church Ministries, Inc. where the Elder Dorothy Tunnell is Pastor. She was a faithful choir member there. On May 10, 2012, Sis. Hill joined the Star Hill AME family. She was faithful in attendance while her health permitted. Ms. Hill aka “Big Mama,” loved life and enjoyed making people laugh. While living in Mishoe Towers, Now Mishoe Cove, Sis. Hill served as the unofficial security guard. She stood in the front of the building greeting everyone with a “hello, “who are you going to see?” If anyone gave her a problem, they were introduced to her baseball bat! Also, while a resident, she became a caregiver for Mrs. Hattie B. Mishoe. She would tell anybody, she loved “Mom” Mishoe. While at Silver Lake, she loved participating in Arts and Crafts, cooking and the church hour. Sis. Hill will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lou Gene Hill; brother in-law, Robert Hill; and her mother and father in-law Leonard and Virginia Hill. Sis. Marie Hill leaves behind to cherish her memory: Mozell Hannah whom she called “Mom,” her Goddaughter, Carolyn Watson; her adopted granddaughter, Kurtesha Watson; her friends residing in Owens Manor; the staff and residents of Silver Lake Nursing Home; Sis. Hattie Hogan, Sis. Linda Lewis and Sis. Sandra Ross whom she always said, “I love you, I love you.” Ms. Juanita Sharp Fagans, The Mishoe, Paige and Sudler families whom she loved dearly, Rev. Odell Wright and a host of friends…for Ms. Hill truly loved everybody with the Love of God!
