Manetta Jean Johnson

Manetta Jean Whitlock Johnson was born November 26, 1943 to Craig & Sarah Whitlock. After the death of Sarah, Craig met and married Jessie Mae Cooke. She became a loving mother to Manetta & her sister Norena. Through this union, Craig & Jessie had 7 other children, 5 boys & 2 girls. In addition to these 9 children, there are also 3 older siblings from Craig’s first marriage. Manetta met and married Jerome Johnson-Bey and had two sons, Jose and Antione. Later Manetta moved to the eastern shore of Maryland, accompanied by Antione who has always been by her side. Manetta often spoke of how she appreciated Antione and his wife Danielle being there to look after her, especially during her failing health. In time, Manetta came to know and love the true God, Jehovah. She dedicated her life to Him and symbolized this by water baptism at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Crownsville, Maryland, on September 1, 2001. She associated with the North Salisbury Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was dearly loved by all of her brothers and sisters there. Manetta was regular at congregation meetings and was known for her bright smile and cheerful disposition. She participated regularly in the door to door ministry until her health declined in recent months. Manetta was assisted spiritually by Paula Nichols who became one of her dearest friends and what the Bible calls “A true friend who is born for times of distress”. Manetta was preceded in death by her brothers Samuel and Wayne, and her sisters Julie, Norena, and Gracie. She is survived by her mother Jessie Whitlock; her brothers Frank, Luther, Armond, and Craig; as well as sisters Carol and Marlene. Manetta is survived also by her sons Jose and Antione along with his wife Danielle; 4 step-children, Phillip, Dione, Diane, and Toni; as well as 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Manetta will be greatly missed by her family and her dear friends who say: “Sleep now our sister; no more pain, no more suffering, until we see you again. For we know that Jehovah our God longs for the work of his hands.
