Louis J Greene Jr.

Louis Julius Greene, Sr., was born on Monday, April 15, 1929 in Savannah, Georgia, to Eddie and Essie Greene. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 of natural causes at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware. He received his formal education in the public schools of Savannah, Georgia. Louis married Ruby Lee Hammond on March 12, 1949. To this union, four children were born: Ruby Ann of Bridgeville, Delaware, who was also his caretaker; Ernestine Greene of Richmond, Virginia; Louis Greene, Jr., of Laurel, Delaware and Arthur Lee (Angela) Greene of Clarksville, Tennessee. He and his wife also raised their grandson, Deacon Kevin Greene of Laurel, Delaware. Louis was a very hard worker. He was employed by H.P. Cannon Foods in Bridgeville, Delaware and later retired from Penne Fibre in Greenwood, Delaware. He also planted a garden every year and shared with his sisters and brothers. He also loved to fish. Louis took care of his wife until she became too ill for him to keep her at home. She is presently in the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Delaware. He loved Ms. Ruby very much. He was a good husband, great father and a good friend to all; whomever he could help. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bridgeville, Delaware since 1979. He was a faithful member. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Temple Lodge #8 of Milford, Delaware for over forty years. Louis was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers and two sisters. In addition to his four children, he leaves to mourn six grandchildren: Kevin Greene, Akilah Greene, Alilah Green Beach (Samuel), Sterling Mustufa Greene, Christopher P. Hurst and Latysha Conway. 13 great grandchildren: Tamara Greene, Decari, Khalil and Aiden Greene, Samya Beach, Daija Souder, Chrishauna, Jayla, CJ Hurst, LaPrince, Endiyan Conway, Devin, Da'Lasia Wise; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Louis is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Lessie (McKinley) Anderson, Maggie Hammond and Bernice Hammond and five brothers-in-law: Roy C. Hammond, Jack Hammond, Willie D.
