Obituary LaShawn Jeanette Spence of Eden, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord at the age of forty-eight on Friday, December 29, 2023. “Shawn”, “Pudge”, Pudgie, and “Toots”as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was born on May 7, 1975 in Salisbury, Maryland to Delores A. Jones Spence and Hugh Spence, Jr. Shawn was educated in the public school system of Somerset County, Maryland and graduated from Washington Senior High School. Shawn attended the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and Wor-Wic Community College and studied Business Administration, Medical Coding & Billing, and Information Technology. Shawn was a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for various employers such as Senior Helpers, Shore UP, Inc., and Dove Point. She also worked for the Community College of Baltimore County, Subway, Call Center Services, McDonald’s, and volunteered at PRMC/Tidal Health. Shawn was a member of New Psalmist Non-Denominational Church in Westover, MD, and over the years, she worked with the youth, was a member of the Usher Board, a member of the Women’s Fellowship, and the kitchen committee. Shawn loved to discuss different scriptures and bible passages for further understanding. Shawn’s health declined resulting in her going on dialysis and having to receive training through the Blind Industries & Services of Maryland (BISM). Although this slowed Shawn down, this did not stop her as she was always thinking of new business ventures such as Shawn’s Sweet Treats and Jeanette’s Travels. Shawn loved using her phone to keep track of different friends locally as well as across the United States. She loved playing games on game systems as well as on her phone and enjoyed those games with “Comedian See No Evil Gaming”. Shawn enjoyed spending time talking to her friends within the organization “Thick Nation” and other Facebook friends and riding around with her Uber driver, her Aunt Marian. She especially enjoyed spending time with her younger cousin “The Boy”, Brycen Hairston. If you wanted to know if something was on sale, Shawn was the go-to person. Shawn loved her entire family and held certain ones dear to her heart. Shawn leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother, Delores Spence, of Eden, MD; her loving father, Hugh Spence, Jr. of Eden, MD; special cousins that she loved dearly - Durrell Jones, Philadelphia, PA; Martel Hairston and Brycen Hairston, Princess Anne, MD. De’Angelo Sheppard, Fort Sill, OK; Kapre Chandler, De’Asia Sheppard, Raven Fiddermon, and Raeshon Fiddermon, all of Baltimore, MD; Uncle - Glendon Jones, Jr., Princess Anne, MD; Aunts - Glenda Sinclair (Nathaniel), and Annette Jones, Salisbury, MD; Cherry Doane, Margaret Jones, Marian Dennis (Leroy), Gertrude Hairston (Darryl), all of Princess Anne, MD; and a host of cousins and friends. Shawn was preceded in death by her grandparents – Hugh Spence, Sr., Esther Wessels Spence, Glendon A.
