Larry Michael Davis

Larry Davis was born on December 15, 1965, to a loving, strong mother, the late Ella M. Davis, in Hemingway, South Carolina. Larry’s great-grandmother, Georgia “Ma-Ma” Davis, told Ella that she was supposed to name her first son Michael, and that is what she was going to call him. From that moment on, he was affectionately known as Michael. While Michael was still a baby, the Davis family moved from Hemingway, to Connecticut, and then settled in Newark, New Jersey. It was in Newark, where Michael attended Camden Elementary School. He had such a love for science fiction and technology, that he was accepted into a specialized magnet school, Science Park High School, and graduated in 1984. He attended William Patterson University. He completed Metro Auto Electronics program in 2011. Michael not only embraced academics, he also learned to play and master many games. Michael’s calm demeanor and analytical mind gave him the ability to master the game of chess. If you had the desire to learn, he was willing to teach you. While his little sister was never interested in mastering these games, under Michael’s tutelage, his younger brother and cousin learned to play chess. No matter where Michael lived a chess game was always close by. Michael’s employment history allowed him to embrace a wide range of different skills that he would use even beyond his employment. He could often be found helping someone move, trying to fix something, volunteering, or helping to build something. There are many times when he was just there for a good laugh. Michael went through a brief transition period and decided to permanently reside in Delaware, in 2011. He continued to use his skills, started consistently fishing and, of course, enjoying a good game of chess. He was a man of few words, with a heart of compassion. He showed love, and was loved, by adults and children alike. During his stay in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital, he continued to show kindness and compassion to others. He may not have moved as fast as he wanted too, but he was still moving and rearranging the furniture in his room, which kept the staff laughing and busy. He prayed the prayer of salvation after he told his sister, “I had a dream that I am healed.” Michael departed this life on April 4, 2018. Larry Michael Davis was preceded in death by his mother, Ella M. Davis, and leaves to cherish his memory, brother, Crueal “Mick”(Ama) (NJ); his sister and caregiver, LaTonia Shenice; four aunts, Creola Peterson (CT), Nettie Wilson (NJ), Bessie Davis (GA), and Lorrine Pearson (Leroy) (NJ); one uncle, Douglass Davis (NJ); three nieces, Asada, Empress, and Ayira; one nephew, Sovereign; a special cousin, Thomas “Bub” Wilson, and a host of other cousins, family members and friends.
