Josephine Elizabeth Christy

Josephine Elizabeth Jenkins was born on July 4, 1945, in Elkton, Maryland to the late Clarence Jenkins and Amanda Pierce-Jenkins. She received her education through Cecil County Public Schools. Josephine, whom many called " Jody“, was employed by Petro Travel Services and Laurelwood Care Center until she could no longer work due to health. On January 15, 1965, she married Cornelius Christy, Sr. and gave birth to six children. Josephine was a very humble woman, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to shop at Catherine's Clothing Store where she would have her suit, hat, shoes and pocket book matching. She also loved to cook and do crossword puzzles and was a serious DVD/CD collector, but most of all, she was a true believer in Jesus Christ. She gave her life to God on June 17, 1977. She was a member of Rehoboth Church of God Apostolic in Middletown, Delaware, where she was a member of the Senior Choir. One of her favorite hymns was "Walking up the King's Highway". Josephine was preceded in death by her daughter, Aretha Elaine Christy; her siblings, James, Elsie, Anne, Julia, Edward, Dorothy, Lillian, Bernice, and Harold. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Cornelius Sr. her children, Thomas (Sabrina), Cornelius Jr., Lamont Sr., Alicia and Elaina (Dennis). She also leaves to cherish her siblings Gladys (Edmond), Jeanette (Gus), MaryAnn (Pedro), James (Jackie), Calvin, and last, but not least her devoted baby sister Linda who called her Jacko and used to follow her around. She leaves 14 grandchildren 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including her special niece, Alison Maple and her best friend/sister Gwendolyn Carey. Yet this is not the end of her story, after our mother was admitted to Elkton Transitional Long-Term Care, she traveled through many stints in and out of the hospital. We thought Friday, August 25th, was just another bump in the road, but God who gives and takes away, saw the irony in her new home’s name being "Transitional Care” to be the place he chose her to transition from labor to sweet rest. The number 7 is God's own number associated with Divine, Completion and Perfection. It was exactly 7 months and 7 days to the day of completing a mandatory Pre-Burial arrangement. That my God said it is finished. She fought a good fight kept and kept the faith. As her Pastor, Nuton Blake and we would say, she had a good Resume'.... It is well!
