James Edward Kilby Sr.

James Edward Kilby Sr., of Dover, Delaware, was born on April 13, 1950, in Rappahannock County, Virginia. He was the son of Irene Kilby-Timbers and the late Bell Timbers. James was affectionately referred to as Jimmy, by friends and Pop Pop by his grandchildren. He had a sense of humor that anyone could grow to love. James departed this life on April 6, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 70 years old. James received his education in the Virginia School System. He attended Scrabble, Carvel and Rappahannock High School. In 1970, he graduated from Warren County High School. After graduation, James enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served for 14 and a half years. He was later employed at Hirsh Industries for 30 years, until his retirement in 2016. James was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dover, Delaware. He enjoyed serving as a member of Calvary’s Hospitality and Soup Kitchen organizations. James was a proud father and grandfather and avid supporter of his children and grandchildren. He loved attending their football, track, soccer, and baseball games. Holidays were always a special time for him because he loved entertaining his family and friends. The Christmas Brunch and end of summer barbeques were notable favorites of close friends and family. On Sundays, you could find him at the US 13 Dragway watching his son, Randall, race his motorcycle, as well as his friend, Gary, race his car. James also had a passion for the RV life. You would find him taking his RV to athletic functions, camping and to other family gatherings. James was preceded in death by his brother Melvin Timbers. James is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Florence Kilby of Dover, DE; two daughters, Cynthia Muhammad (Sherman) of Fredericksburg, VA and Frances Harris (Robert) of Dover, DE; two sons, Randall Scott (Shirley) of Magnolia, DE and James Kilby, Jr. (Natarsha) of Dover, DE; mother, Irene Timbers of Culpeper, VA; four sisters, I. Christine Timbers of Santa Barbara CA, Mary Ellen Timbers, of Culpeper VA, Frances Miller (Stephen) of Culpeper, VA and Gail Timbers (Tom) of Richmond, VA; an aunt, Polly Dennis; special aunt, Mary Louise Dickerson; two sisters-in-law, Bridie Timbers, of Woodbridge, VA and Doris Ruff (John) of Dover, DE; mother-in-law, Frances Lamb of Dover, DE; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
