James B. Johnson

“May The Works I’ve Done Speak for Me” James Beverly Johnson, affectionately known as “Deac” and “Mr. James,” was born on August 31, 1958 to the late Clifton and Phyllis Johnson. He departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was educated in the Accomack County public school system, where he graduated from Chincoteague High School in Chincoteague, Virginia with honors. He also received an Associates degree from the Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa, Virginia. James was employed at Captains Cove Golf & Yacht Club most of his life. He took a small break to become a truck driver, where he was known as “Father Time.” After a few years, he returned to his beloved Captains Cove to continue out his work. James took extreme pride in his lawn and yard work. Everyone knew to stay off his grass! He started his own lawn care company, Johnson’s Lawn Care, which was a huge success. He loved his jobs and was very proud of his work. At an early age, James accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Horntown, Virginia and later joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Temperanceville, Virginia, where he wore many different hats. James took extreme pride in being on the Usher Ministry, Media Ministry, President of the Male Chorus for many years, Couples Ministry, United Voices Choir, and Chairman of the Deacon Ministry. He loved Jerusalem and his church family very much. James and Pamela met in 1992 and after living together for ten (10) years, they were joined in holy matrimony on August 31, 2002. With a blended family, they had five (5) children and nine (9) grandchildren whom he cherished and adored. Nothing made him prouder than his grandkids and their accomplishments. James shared a very special bond with RaeQuan, whom he called “Boog” and SaMiyah, whom he called “Sugar Mama” aka “Shugs.” James leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving wife, Pamela McKyer-Johnson; three (3) daughters, Kinya Tull (James), Shaka McKyer and Tamyra Byrd (Donte); one son, Raymond McKyer; nine (9) grandchildren, RaeQuan, Jaden, NeVeah, Zion, Amani, Markell, SaMiyah, Kamryn and Joshua; three (3) sisters, Yvonne Parker (Edward), Brenda Pyron (James) and Ruth Blake; a special nephew who was raised like his brother, Linwood Christopher; his aunt, Phillipa Milbourne; six (6) uncles, Wardell Christopher (Regina), Dalton Christopher (Hallie), Lenny Christopher, Dallas Johnson (Carolyn), Layton Hope and James M. Hope; father-in-law, James Hope; sister-in law, Wendy Hope; best friend, Kenny Lankford; special friends, Jimmy Giddings, Chad Hall, Lamonte Johnson, Elwood Taylor, Jr. Mike Harmon and co-worker a host of nieces, nephews, family friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Clifton and Phyllis Johnson, his son, Michael McKyer; brother-in-law, Mitchell Corbin, and best friend brother, Thomas Pitts Sr. Lovingly Submitted – The Family
