Ida Mae Brittingham

“Her Story of How She Got Over” On Sunday, December 20, 2020, our beloved, Ida M. Brittingham, was called home to be with the King. Her story began on January 2, 1934, in Harbeson, Delaware, where she resided until the family moved to Dillwyn, Virginia. After completing her primary education in the Sussex County public schools, she attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. Continuing her higher education, Elder Brittingham attended Bethlehem Bible College in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1992. Her drive to excel coupled with her passion for the Word of God led her to attain her Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Van School in Texas. She worked diligently and graduated from Vans at the age of 74! At an incredibly young age, Elder Ida Brittingham, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She began attending Mt. Zion Holy Church at the tender age of 5. This is where she would grow in the Word, actively become involved with the music ministry and served as one of the lead singers for the Mt. Zion Holy Church Choir. Often, she would serve as the psalmist for the late Pastor Jacob Brittingham Sr. before he imparted and preached the Word of God. On November 17,1952, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Elder Jacob Brittingham Jr. As a result of their union, they became the blessed parents of 14 children. In 1966, Elder Jacob Brittingham, was called and sent by God under the direction of the Board of Directors of Mt. Sinai Holy Churches of America to go and Pastor Bright and Morning Star Holy Church, in Dillwyn, Virginia. She accepted and accompanied him to answer the call and fulfill the assignment. Elder Ida Brittingham would serve as his psalmist and intercessor throughout the years. Later, she would answer the call to Pastor in Richmond, Virginia, for 20 years after the passing of her husband. The impact God made through her was tremendous and continues today. Many souls were saved, healed, delivered, and changed under her leadership. She will always be remembered for the way she affectionately loved and served God, the prayer warrior, the preacher, the psalmist, the dreamer, the helper, the confidant, the pillar of strength, the giver and her love for others. There was an honesty and dignity in her presence that was unmistakable. She leaves behind a rich heritage of love, commitment, and perseverance that continues. This is How She Made It Over! Elder Ida leaves behind to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, her children, Shirley Brittingham, Jesse Brittingham, Beverly Clark, Evelyn Rollins (Steve), Nathaniel Brittingham, Samuel Brittingham (Melinda), Joseph Brittingham (Kim), Ellis Brittingham (Melissa), Ada Johnson (Buyon), Laverne Reid (Glenn), Moketa Parker (Arthur) and Cortez Brittingham (Brandy); sisters, Hazel Milbourne, Frances Hopkins (Melvin) and Lydia Wright; brother, George Harmon; sisters-in-law, Esther Knapp and Bishop Grace Ruth Batten; brothers-in-law, James Brittingham and Melvin Hopkins; over 75 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
