Helen Bernice Leach

Helen B. Leach, 84 years young, passed away on Thursday night, February 14, 2019, at Birmingham Green Retirement Home in Manassas, Virginia. She was born on Sunday, July 29, 1934, in Princess Anne, Maryland, to the late Oliver and Dorothy (Hayward) Hall. She is a graduate of Delaware Technical Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. She worked for several years as a salesperson at Sam’s in Dover, selling computers. Helen held several positions at Sears. She was a telephone operator, worked in loss prevention, and successfully sold electronics. She was most proud of her time spent serving her community. Her unique style of parenting was very useful as she drove junior high and high school buses for Caesar Rodney School District. Her firm, but loving personality is evident in the children that were placed in her care and still remember hearing her say “Sit Down!” With her unforgettable voice and tone, she drove the buses carefully and with pride making sure children got to school safely and on time. Helen had a unique sense of humor. She used this during her time working for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed going from school to school dressed as a frog for their “Kiss Me, I Don’t Smoke” campaign. Her boldness and love it or leave it style of affection will be remembered by all who have crossed her path or her yard! Helen is survived by two brothers, Daniel Hall and Oliver Hall; two sons, Terrill L. Hall and his wife Joseline of Charleston, South Carolina and Carl C. Leach III and his fiancé Kim Robinson of Woodbridge, Virginia; several nieces, and many nephews. The title that meant the most to Helen more than anything else in life, was “Grandma”. She would stoically tell stories and share pictures with any and all who asked about her wonderful grand babies. Her swift tongue and rock solid stance would remind anyone who challenged it, not all family is born family. Her surviving grandchildren are Kristen North, Shayne Chisholm, Jon Crosby, Chrissy Crosby, Terrill Hall II, Carl C. Leach IV, Deven Leach I, LeAndra Robinson and Telia Robinson. Finally, she is a Great Grandmother to and survived by James Speights and Terrill Hall III.
