Helen A. Davis

Helen Amelia Johnson Davis of Dover, formerly of Chester, PA passed away peacefully with her children at her side, Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 77 years old. Helen was born June 28, 1940 in Chester, PA daughter of the late Estella and Issac Johnson. She later lived in Templeville, MD, where she was cared for by her Uncle James and Aunt Ida Thompson. Eventually she settled in Dover. She was educated at William Henry Comprehensive High in Dover. She was employed at Playtex for 31 years until her retirement. She married the late Leon G. Davis. She stated to her children, “It was one of the happiest times of my life.” From this union she also gained a host of brothers and sisters in-laws that quickly became true brothers and sisters. She adored her late mother-in-law, Corrine Davis. She credited her with much of her knowledge in mothering both naturally and spiritually. Helen was a dedicated member of St. John' Holy Church in Hartley, DE. She joined under the leadership of Elder Irene Sudler. She later served Elder Hazel Williams and finally, her first cousin Elder James Combs. She served as a President of the Missionary Department, Superintendent of the Sunday School, as well as teacher of the adult class. She was also a Mother of the Church and was known for her sweet, caring spirit and her love for God. Helen was preceded in death by her late husband, Leon Gilbert Davis, her parents, Issac and Estella Johnson and her uncle, James Thompson and his wife Ida, who raised her. She is survived by her children; two sons, Paris Johnson and James Davis, both of Dover; four daughters, Vivian (Alvah) Brads of Nashville, TN, Gail Davis, Beverly Davis and Stephanie Davis, all of Dover; God daughter, Jasmine Holmes; sister, Mary Briscoe of Dover; four sisters-in-laws, Shirley West, Rose Aldrich, Anita Yuille, Sandra Davis all of Monessen, PA, and Marcella of Atlanta, Ga: four brothers-in-laws, Ernie of Columbus, Marvin, Lloyd and Kevin, all of Monessen, P.A. three grandchildren: Latrina (Herman) Banks of Nashville, Joshua Davis and Ernesto Blen of Dover; five great grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren; a dear niece Amelia Briscoe (Millie), an extended family, the Ingrams and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
