Gerald O. Turner

Gerald Otis Turner, Sr., of 5645 Gates Street, Royal Oak (Bellevue), MD passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 81. He was the son of the late Howard Otis and Harriett Turner. Gerald graduated from Moton High School in 1948. He joined the U. S. Air Force and served as an Aircraft Engineer. After discharge, he went to North Haven, CT where he worked with his Uncle Henry using heavy equipment. He worked for Olin Winchester Fire Arms and Zimel Brothers Appliances. He formed his own company "Turner Appliance & Repair," He owned and operated a Laundromat, as well as a body shop. He moved to Atlanta, GA where he and his brother, Maurice, formed a company called "Bambi Construction." After three years, he returned to North Haven, CT where he and his sons operated his own HVAC business until he retired in 1990 and returned to Bellevue to take care of his father. He mentored and taught many young men HVAC skills. His current company is "T & T Lawn Cutting and Handyman Services. LLC. Gerald is survived by his wife (Audrey Turner), his brother, Hilbert (Bill) Turner of Royal Oak. two sons and one daughter: Gerald Otis Turner, Jr. of New Haven, CT; Howard Keith Turner of Bellevue, MD and Susan Turner of New Haven, CT; his first wife, Lucille of New Haven, CT; three step-children: Andre Speller (Monique) of Bowie, MD; Cheryl Speller of New Haven, CT and Renee Baker of Colchester, CT; three grandchildren (Nicholas, Christopher and Gabriel); ten step-grandchildren (Andrea, Brad, Andre Jr., DeAndre, Kirk, Marvin, Terence. Syan, Anthony & Aaron). He is also survived by Sister-In-Laws, Nannie Mae Boulden of Easton, MD; Nancy Turner of Upper Marlboro; Ernestine Turner of Easton, MD; Catisa Turner of Tampa, FL; Ann Turner of Charlotte, NC and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides his parents (Howard & Harriett Turner), Gerald was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Landman; five brothers: Nicholas Turner, Sr., Gene C. Turner, Ronald (Doc) Turner, Warren Preston Turner and Maurice Samuel Turner; two sister-in-laws, Goldy B. Turner of Royal Oak & Ruby Turner of Lithonia, GA. Gerald loved animals, hunting and fishing and was an excellent cook. He built his homes in North Haven, CT and Bellevue, MD. He is a member of Oriental Lodge #6 F & AM Prince Hall and was Past Worshipful Master (June 1974 -June 1975).
