Frances E. Snead

Frances Elizabeth Jane (Harrington) Snead departed this life; surrounded by loves ones on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Delaware Hospice in Milford, DE after an extended illness. She was born on July 17, 1941 in Laurinburg, Robinson County, North Carolina to the late Lacy McCoy and Vera Harrington. She later married the love of her life of 30+ years, the late James Edward Snead of Exmore, Virginia Frances or to most, Miss Frances, was known as “Everyone’s Mom” She was warm, inviting, stern, and straight to the point and of course loving. She didn’t care who you were, once you encountered her presence, you automatically knew you felt “right at home.” She taught her children what it takes to make it in the world. She tirelessly works to make sure they didn’t go without. Lots of people seemed to absorb her strength and followed suit. Whether you were related by blood or simply an extended member of the family, you were alright by her. One of her greatest passions was cooking. She worked a few establishments in the area such as the Legendary Moonlight Grille, The Gun and Rod Club and of course Mills Brothers where she made her mark, giving her all and added that one special ingredient that had everyone coming back for more and that was love. If she wasn't cooking, they were not coming. All the neighborhood kids on Church St. and Banneker Heights made an attempt to sneak from their parents just see what she was cooking and of course she would just laugh. She leaves behind a loving family which includes her two sons, Dwayne Edward Powell of Milford, DE and John Preston Rooks, Jr. of Baltimore, MD; her sister, Gracie Essilfie and husband (Benjamin) of Connecticut; brother, Willie Harrington and wife (Vera) of Charlotte, NC; her loving sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Coulbourne of Virginia; brother-in-law, Howard Snead, Jr. of Milford, DE; her granddaughter, Kemiah T. Nocks of Salisbury, MD; a host of adopted grand-children and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews; numerous relatives and dear close friends.
