Frances Marie Hopkins

Frances Marie Hopkins of Millsboro, Delaware died on November 2, 2012, at home surrounded by her family and friends. She was 79, born on December 12, 1932 to the late McKinley and Frances Savage in Assawoman, Virginia. Marie as she was known by many was a devoted wife and mother. Marie received her education in the Accomack County Virginia School system. She attended Metopkins Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age. Marie left Virginia in her early teens, and moved to Baltimore, Maryland then to Wilmington, Delaware. Later she moved to Lower Sussex County Delaware where she worked at Millsboro Poultry. Marie attended Nancy Ellen School of Beauty Culture in Dover, Delaware and graduated in 1959. After graduating from the School of Beauty she did hair for a number of years out of her home in Millsboro, Delaware until she was unable. She worked at Draper King Cole in Milton, Delaware and later worked at Braunstein Clothing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Kim's Manufacturing in Selbyville, Delaware. Marie was joined in holy matrimony to Preston Lee Hopkins, and from this union they were blessed with two sons. Marie was a very stylish lady and known for many talents, from sewing, cooking, canning and gardening, she also loved to travel in the US and abroad. She also enjoyed watching Westerns on television especially "Gunsmoke”. She got much joy out of watching her son Preston T play baseball and race his motorcycles. She would open her home to those who needed a place to live. She loved to attend a good Gospel Concert and theater plays. Whenever you came to visit her and she was cooking she made sure you would eat even if you were not hungry. She enjoyed a good conversation on topics ranging from fashion to politics as well as finding treasures at a yard sale. Whenever you went to visit and you were about to leave her famous words would be "What's your hurry". In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Preston Lee; a daughter Bernadine L Harmon; and four brothers, Norman Downing, Willard Savage, Finney Savage, Sr. and Carbin Savage. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons; Demetrius L. Hopkins of Vallejo, California, Preston T. and his wife Anita Morris-Hopkins of Millsboro, DE, daughter Beulah Rebecca and her husband Kenneth Yarborough of Dover, DE; sister Rosie M and her husband Martina Showell of Dover, DE; two sisters-in-laws, Vita M Savage of Selbyville, DE and Eunice Savage of Baltimore, MD; ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, friends and special recognition to friends and caregivers Mrs. Elizabeth Harmon, Mrs. Annie J. Custis and Mrs. Delores Justice.
