Eugene Ashley Ross

Eugene Ashley Ross, the seventh of seven children born to the late Solomon Ross and Rachel Shockley Ross, lost his battle with a series of health issues at 3:17 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, in Dover, Delaware. Eugene was born on June 22, 1942, in Milford, Delaware and was christened at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Eugene attended elementary school at Benjamin Banneker School in Milford and attended William Henry Comprehensive High School in Dover for grades ten through twelve, where he played football and basketball. He maintained friendships with many of his schoolmates, thus becoming lifelong buddies. He spent most of his life in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia with his families and friends. During his youth, Eugene traveled to horseraces with his uncle. Professionally, Eugene sold Chambers’ Beauty Supplies and worked with a contractor to build houses. Additionally, he co-owned and operated J G’s Beauty and Barber Shop and Beauty School with his late wife, Jean, in Dover and Milford for many years. He demonstrated his barbering skills and won many contests at National Barbering and Beauty Conventions throughout the east coast. For many years, he was an active member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Dover, where he sang with the male chorus and the mass choir. Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Ross; brothers, Solomon F. Ross, Jr., William A. Ross and Earl S. Ross; sister, Vivienne M. Ross, and his wives, Betty J. Daniels Ross, Patricia Faison Ross and Jean James Ross. Surviving to cherish his memory are two sisters, Reba R. Hollingsworth, Ph.D. of Dover, Delaware and Celia E. Jackson of Houston, Texas; sons, Gordon Dion Ross, Columbia, South Carolina and Darrian Maurice Ross, Baltimore, Maryland; daughter, Regina Denise Harlan, Columbia, South Carolina; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and special friends. We are grateful for the life we shared with our beloved Eugene, but we realize that when his time on earth had come to an end, we had to let go and trust that God will give him life everlasting. The Family Please Don’t Don’t spend too much time mourning; tears are for the sad. I left to be with Jesus and this should make you glad. Don’t waste your hours in grieving; no need to feel distress, I am tired of life’s frustrations and I had to get some rest. Don’t vex yourself with questions or try to reason why, Life here for me was ended; it came my time to die. Don’t lose the love I gave you, feed it with your care; Grow it with devotion and spread it everywhere. Don’t fret because my leaving came in such a way; We’ll have another meeting in God’s eternal day
