Edward Gregory Knight

Edward Gregory Knight was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, May 12, 1976. His mother and father, Roy and Anita, found out that they had a very different baby, who was determined that he wanted to do things his way, and not theirs. He and his brother, Michael Roy Knight, were both happy go-lucky, but Eddie was ‘Eddie’. The family moved to Dover, Delaware, where both children remained for the rest of their lives. Eddie was devastated when his brother, Michael Knight, passed in 1988. But next, along came his little brother, Richard Jamar Boyer. Eddie became a loving big brother who would help his younger sibling and attended Jamar’s singing endeavors whenever he could. Eddie and his brother were baptized at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, in twin outfits. Eddie started to attend Sunday School with the help of his Aunt Sheila. He attended Sunday School, sang in the Cherub Choir and was active in all the children activities. As an adult, he loved helping at the church, especially with the sound system, and would get out of bed and go help, even on days when he had to work. Eddie attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Faith Elementary School and graduated from Dover High School in 1994. He was encouraged to attend Delaware State University. After one semester, he found that it was not something he wanted to do and from that point on, Eddie began his adult life. No one was going to take his joy. He found a way to take care of himself at a young age, and very, very seldom asked for anything from his father or mother. He found his niche in hosting. He had worked at Applebee’s, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, Smithers, and probably more. He finally settled down with McGlynn’s Pub. He loved talking with customers and was one of the best servers they had. When he became ill last June and had to stop working, there were several people who called him at home to find out where he was and when he was going to come back to McGlynn’s. He really missed McGlynn’s and hoped that he could go back eventually. Eddie really cared about others and was diligent in helping others. He went to God quietly on the evening of March 10, 2018, with a group of friends around him. Eddie is survived by his mother, Anita Boyer; his brother, Richard Jamar; his aunt, Sheila Griffin; his uncle, Orlando McDowell; his cousin, Keshia McDowell; his favorite loving cousin, Nikki McDowell; family aunt, Susan Browne; and family cousins, Jimmy and Lynnette. Eddie also had an awesome group of friends who loved and cared about him. Preceding him in death was his caring father, Roy F. Knight; his grandfather and grandmother, Johnson and Maggie Wade of Charleston, West Virginia; and grandparents, Maren F., Sr. and Bessie McDowell of Dover. There is no doubt, Edward Gregory Knight will be missed. God loves you Eddie!
