Edward Godwin

EDWARD’S LIFE AND LEGACY Deacon Edward Lee Godwin was born on November 9, 1948 to the late Abraham and Louise D. Godwin in Horsey, Virginia. He departed this life on Friday September 20, 2024 at Hartley Nursing Home and Rehab in Pocomoke City, Maryland. He received his education from Mary N. Smith High School, graduating in 1967. His early Christian childhood background came from Jerusalem Baptist Church in Temperanceville, Virginia. In addition to being employed for a number of years at Campbell Soup Company in Pocomoke City, Maryland as a supervisor, Edward also worked at Perdue and Tyson Foods in Temperanceville, Virginia. In 1992 Edward married the Love of his Life, the late Geneva Godwin. They were married for twenty-five (25) years. Daddy, Pop Pop, Eddie Boy and Uncle Ed were some of the names that he was affectionately called. He loved his family, fishing, hunting, football (Redskins/Commanders), baseball, watching soap operas and Gunsmoke. He enjoyed sitting out at T’s Corner with his buddies and also helping Mr. Petey at his fruit stand. Edward was known for his jokes, being a comedian and giving everyone their own nicknames. In spite of his humorous nature, he was fun-loving and would always greet you with a warm smile. Edward leaves to cherish fond memories: his children, Antionette Joynes of New Church, VA, Cordelia Wilcox of Goldsboro, NC, Kimberly Joynes of Pocomoke, MD, Tymesna Banks of Atlantic, VA, Stephanie (Alexander) Williams of Wattsville, VA, Arnice Bailey of Berlin, MD, Rodriquez Robins of Chesapeake, VA and Richard Robins, Jr. “June Bug” of Exmore, VA; sisters, LaRue Godwin and Karen Bowen, both of Oak Hall, VA, Dordean Schoolfield of Pocomoke, MD, Althea Copes of Goldsboro, NC and Robin Savage of Upper Marlboro, MD; one aunt, Galena Savage of Atlantic, VA; brothers-in-law, Jerry Justice of Temperanceville, VA and Arthur (Darlene) Dickerson of Accomac, VA; a special niece, Lula Mae Godwin; children he loved and raised, Terrance Joynes and Sherika Joynes; special friend, Naomi Campbell; close friends, Edward Marshall, Michael (Bonnie) Kellam, Jeffrey Marshall, Steve Payton, Michael White, Mike (Betty) Hall and Bill White; caregivers, LaRue Godwin, Loshuan Godwin and Herbert Bowen; twenty (20) grandchildren; thirty-four (34) great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one great-great nephew and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends. Edward was preceded in death by: his wife, Geneva Godwin; parents, Abraham and Louise Godwin; sisters, Catherine Burton, Dorethea Fletcher, Lillie Mae Turner and Venera Godwin; brothers, Ernest Godwin, James Godwin, Martin Godwin, David Godwin and Bobby Sheppard; grandson, Marcus Joynes and daughter, Bernadette Joynes.
