DORIS BUTLER’S LIFE AND LEGACY Sister Doris Butler was born on May 25, 1937 in Seaford, Delaware to the late Jeremiah and Hattie Batson and raised by Mary Sorden Nichols. Doris went peacefully home to her heavenly Father on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Lofland Park in Seaford, Delaware with her family by her side. Doris was educated through Caroline County at Lockerman School in Denton, Maryland. She graduated June 1955. She met and married the late Jural Butler. Together they raised five (5) children. Doris was a faithful, dedicated and active member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Community Civic League both in Federalsburg, Maryland. Although she was unable to be out and about, she was on the phone making calls, getting donations from family and friends and making suggestions to assist with Bethel’s and the League’s events. She was an active member of Bethel where she served as an usher and Communion steward until her health would not allow her to do so, but you could still count on her for whatever else was needed. Doris worked various jobs to support her children which included Dulany Foods in Bridgeville, Delaware, where she met Jural. Her last place of employment was Maryland Plastic in Federalsburg, Maryland, from where she retired. Although, she was retired from Maryland Plastic, she was known and respected by administration and employees. As we were told, she is legendary at Maryland Plastic. Her favorite pastime was talking on the phone and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed simply watching family and children play and enjoy each other. Talking on the phone with Tommy Draine for their weekly calls to talk and fuss (her favorite thing to do with him) and simply enjoying each other and the conversation. Doris was preceded in death by: Jural Butler (husband); Lisa Nickerson-Stanley (daughter); Thomas Batson (brother); Jeremiah Batson (brother - Jim); Grace Batson (sister); Mary Virginia Cook (sister); Martha President (sister); Addie Bolden (sister); Charles Batson (brother); Alfred Batson (brother); William Batson (brother); Pearl Lofland (sister); Vincent Stanley (grandson); Willie Mae Neeley (sister-in-law); Julia Nickerson (sister-in-law) and Betty Jo Holland (special cousin). She leaves to mourn her life: her children, Wanda Bland (Willie) and Vanessa Draine, both of Federalsburg, Maryland, Lynne Nickerson-Jones (Vernon) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Eric Butler of Federalsburg, Maryland, Louis Batson (Rosalie) of Seaford, Delaware, George Batson (Vanessa) of Cambridge, Maryland and Shirley Batson of Seaford, Delaware; grandchildren, SherRose Hughes-Holmes (Brian), Lakesha Hammond (Shawn), Ariel Thompson, William Bland, Eric Butler (E.J.), Jaren Jones, Erica Butler, Shawn Beckett, SheKeya Beckett, Jourdan Jones and Jeania Nickerson; fifteen (15) great-grandchildren; eleven (11) great-great grandchildren; The Special Men in her life, Larry Hughes, Dennis Deshields, Anthony Deshields, Jr. and Ferron Roberts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
