Dolores Marie Williams

Dolores Marie Griffin Williams was born on August 9, 1940 to the late Leroy and Gladys Griffin in Hartly Delaware. Dolores married Nathaniel E. Williams on June 14, 1975, and in July of that year, moved Dover, Delaware where they resided until her death. Dolores went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2016 at Bay Health Medical Center. Dolores was the proud mother of two sons, Kevin and Derek Fountain. Dolores received her early education in Kenton Elementary School and graduated from William Henry High School in Dover, Delaware. She continued her education at Delaware State College, now Delaware State University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1976, she obtained her Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University in Special Education. Dolores was an Educator for 36 years. She started her career in Chestertown, Maryland followed by working in the Cape Henlopen School District, Milford School District and the Capital School District where she retired in 2004. After retiring, she mentored at the Boys and Girls Club of Dover and taught home bound students providing for their educational needs. Dolores was a great seamstress who made most of her clothes. She also loved to do flower arranging and decorations. On many occasions, she decorated for weddings, banquets and other festive events. Dolores founded and operated Ebony’s Finest Girls Club for over 15 years. This club taught young ladies, from the fifth to eighth grades, etiquette and social graces. The goal was to prepare these young ladies to properly conduct themselves in social settings. They also had fun because she would have sleep overs, bowling, skating and movie outings. The highlight of Ebony’s Finest was a queen’s contest were every girl was crowned Queen. Dolores was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church for many years. She also was a member of the following originations: Delta Sigma Theta, Dover Alumnae Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa, Alpha Pi Chapter, Electa Chapter # 6, Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Golden Circle Chapter # 43. From 2013 to 2016, Dolores was the First Lady of the Prince Hall Masons for the State of Delaware. Dolores was preceded in death by one sister, Loleta Griffin and two brothers, Rayfield and Leroy Griffin. She is survived by her husband of forty-one years Nathaniel E. Williams, two sons Kevin and Derek Fountain, one granddaughter, the joy of her life, Destiny Fountain, six sisters, Ellen Bessix of Dover, Lucille Brittingham of Dover, Diana Griffin of Hartly, Sylvia Parker (Robert) of Camden, Sandra Griffin of Dover and Theresa Griffin of Magnolia; two brothers, James and Richard Griffin of Hartly; six sisters-in-law; six aunts; three uncles, two very close friends and sorority sisters, Janette Wilson and Calmetta Brinkley and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
