Delores "Sis" Ann Wicks

Obituary Delores Ann Wicks, affectionately known as ”Sis”, was the daughter of the late William A. Brown and the late Geneva Potts Brown. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Compass Hospice Care Facility-Barnette Center in Centreville, Maryland. Delores was born on May 14, 1942 in Denton, Maryland and celebrated her 80th birthday at home with family and friends earlier this year. Delores attended Caroline County Public Schools where she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Claylon Vansant Wicks, Jr. Delores and Claylon were married on May 19,1961. From this union they were BLESSED with five children. Family was extremely important to the two of them and they raised their children with unconditional love. Delores and Claylon also enjoyed traveling extensively to different locations throughout the United States visiting their children, family and friends. Delores continued, after the death of Claylon, the traditions and legacies which they had created that had a long lasting impact on their family. Family was always a high priority for Delores. She tremendously enjoyed the parenting of their children, and extended family, as well as, encouraging and inspiring them to do well. She loved her family dearly and would offer advice, share wisdom from her life experiences and provide philosophical and financial assistance whenever needed. Delores loved having cookouts, eating crabs, cooking holiday family dinners, as well as, planning the annual family reunion until her health made the aforementioned prohibitive. She especially enjoyed her great grandchildren who were clearly the apples of her eyes. They could do no wrong and she spoiled each of them to her hearts content. Delores worked for forty-one years as a Caroline County Public Schools bus assistant (#55) for children with exceptional needs. This was a labor of love for her each day and with numerous #55 bus drivers. She loved those children with special exceptionalities and they definitely loved her. Delores had numerous diverse interests throughout her life whether for economical reasons or pure enjoyment. She loved to sew, make clothes from McCall patterns, plant flowers in her yard, solve word find puzzles, explore different craft projects for her home, as well as, gifts for family and friends. After her retirement, for outside entertainment, she enjoyed going to the casino with her sisters and other family members. However, in the solitude of her home, she enjoyed listening to her favorite radio stations, watching Court TV and talking on the phone with family and friends. Delores was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother, cousin, friend, and neighbor. She will truly be missed by all that had an opportunity to be in her presence. Delores leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Wanda (Matthew) Bryan of Dover, DE and Tina (Dale) Brown of Greensboro, MD; three sons, Reginald Wicks of Denton, MD, Eric (Regina) Wicks of Federalsburg, MD and Mark (SaDarreya) Wicks of Woodbridge, VA; Grandchildren, Clydale Henry, Shayla Powers, Eric Wicks, Jr., Jasmin (Duane) Wilson, Jared (Lyssa) Henry, Mark Wicks II, and Tyla Wicks; Sisters, Frances Corsey of Preston, MD and Betty Brown of Denton, MD; Brothers, George (Kannika) Brown of Silver Spring, MD and William (Joyce) Brown of Goldsboro, MD; Brothers-in-law, Archie Thomas of Wilmington, DE and Louis (Cynthia) Thomas of Newark, DE; Sisters-in-law, Hope Brown of Goldsboro, MD, Wysetta Warner of Hurlock, MD, Sharon (Herbert) Murray of Salisbury, MD, Mildred (Clifton) Browne of Syracuse, NY, and Margaret Bush of Smyrna, DE; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friends Hilda Wilson, Joy Breeding and Peggy Wicks.
