Deloise Jewell Nelson (Platt)

Deloise Jewell Platt Nelson, was born on Saturday, November 23, 1941 in Shellman, Georgia, to the late Robert Lee and Susie Cisroe Platt. She departed this life peacefully among family at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Deloise attended Randolph County Public schools in Shellman, Georgia. She later met and married Johnny W. Nelson, Jr. Upon moving to Delaware, she worked as a domestic and restaurant worker in the Rehoboth Beach area. She was also employed at Draper Cannery for several years. She later gained employment at Allen’s Family Food (formerly Paramount Poultry/Cargill), where she worked for many years until her health prevented her from working. Deloise attended Piney Grove Baptist Church in Shellman. She joined Friendship Baptist Church after moving to Delaware, where she later served on the Missionary Board. She loved her church and enjoyed her daily talks and laughs with her special friend/mom, Cora Washington, before her health declined. Deloise loved her family and tried to stay active in their lives. She liked to cook and enjoyed sharing recipes with her granddaughters. She loved family gathering and talking with her children. During her later days she would text them to wish them a good night and to tell them that she loved them. Before her health declined, Deloise enjoyed gardening and taking care of her plants. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Deloise was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Susie Platt; eight sisters, Janie Mae Platt, Jewett Platt, Ann Thomas, Earnestine Thomas, Susie Allen, Catherine Platt, Clara Bennett, and Gwendolyn Waters; two brothers, Thomas Platt, and Willie West and three grandchildren, Cletis Nelson, Deonna Doman and Ta’yonna Russ. Deloise leaves to cherish fond memories, five children, Cornelia Nelson of Dover, DE, Juanita Nelson of Ellendale, DE, Glenda Morris of Seaford, DE, Leonard and Brenda Nelson both of Georgetown, DE; 19 grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Katie Amos (Henry) of Miami, FL, Annie Beach of Lincoln, DE and Joann Lowther (David) of Milton, DE; nephew/son Leroy Tice of Englewood, NJ; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
