CHARLENE’S JOURNEY Charlene Carol McCready-Sturgis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on July 28, 1959 in Cambridge, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Sharkey and Hazel McCready. Charlene was a proud graduate of the Cambridge South Dorchester High School Class of 1977. In her early years in Cambridge, she was known for her strong work ethic, holding several positions while raising her three lovely daughters. She eventually moved to Salisbury, Maryland, where she embraced life on her own terms, always radiating a spirit of independence and joy. It was in Salisbury that she met and married her soulmate, Albert Sturgis. Charlene took great pride in her marriage, always affectionately referring to him as "My Husband." A pivotal moment in her journey was when she dedicated her life to the Lord; she deeply loved the profound peace and change that her faith brought to her daily walk. A dedicated caregiver by nature, Charlene was most recently employed at the Anchorage Healthcare Center in Salisbury. Outside of work, her greatest passions were her family, her kitchen, and her grandchildren. A true nature lover, Charlene possessed a remarkable green thumb; she had the gift of making anything grow and found great peace in tending to her plants. She was an exceptional cook who found joy in nourishing those she loved. Her grandchildren, however, truly were the "apple of her eye," and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her three devoted daughters, LaRwanda McCready Jones (Dewayne), Chimere Ward (Eric), and Danielle McCready; her 10 grandsons, Tra’vonte McCready, Raymonte Cuffee, Rashawn Cuffee, Jamont’e Sheppard, Quayshawn Elmore, Trejaun McCready, Da’mere McCready, Jabari McCready, Jhalil Ward, and Jaylin Ward; 6 granddaughters, Taneisha Cuffee, Jamyrah Sheppard, Jamera McCready, Myla McCready, Janiah Sheppard, and Nyla Bleu Jenkins and 24 great-grandchildren and one more expected soon. Her legacy continues with: two sisters, Pandora Walters and Teresa Walters; three nephews, Tabari McCready, Avante’ Walter, and Jamar Holmes; two very special cousins, George and Elva Rogers and a host of nieces, cousins, friends, extended family and her loving church community. Preceded in death by one sister Jaqueline McCready. Charlene’s memory will live on in every blooming flower and in the hearts of all who knew her.
