Carol Ann Germany (Harris)

Carol Ann Germany (Harris) was born on October 23, 1951, in Petersburg, Virginia, to the late Melvin B. Harris, Sr. and Ella V. (Woodley) Harris. A loving mother, devoted sister, compassionate aunt and friend to many, Carol departed this life on January 27, 2020, surrounded by family. Carol lived most of her childhood and early adult years in Dover, Delaware. Known for her striking beauty, will and determination, she graduated from Dover High School in 1969. Shortly after, she began a gratifying career as a Nurse's Aide at Kent General Hospital in the Labor & Delivery Department. Smart and goal-driven, she diverted from nursing and embarked upon a profession in insurance, working for Rockwell Associates, in Wilmington, Delaware, for many years. However, Carol never lost her passion for nursing. In her later years, she returned to nursing as a Certified Patient Care Assistant, spreading her nurturing spirit, while working private duty with seniors, primarily from Delaware, but also as far as, Georgia and Ohio, where she lived over a period of time with her daughter and grandson. Carol had many gifts, talents and interests and is affectionately remembered for being able to crochet just about anything from hats to blankets and baby booties. While her health created some challenges over the years, her ambitions remained unwavering. Carol continually challenged herself, taking classes to learn new concepts and skills, both in the classroom and online. She became technologically savvy on her devices and sent beautiful morning text messages to her family. Some of her favorite pastimes included watching her favorite television shows, playing interactive games on her iPad, making early morning runs to the Farmer’s Market and listening to music by Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke. Carol cherished quality time with her children and family. Spending time with her grandchildren over the years gave her so much life, healing and unconditional love. Most of all, Carol enjoyed her independence, working and lending a hand where she felt needed, all the while fighting the good fight of faith with her health. Prior to departing her beloved family, she maintained a quiet life in New Castle, Delaware, with her son, and worked 7 years in a tax office with coworkers that became family to her. Carol was truly loved by so many. Strong, beautifully bold and loved to laugh, she took great joy and pride sharing her perspective to all that crossed her path. She had a unique way to push those that she loved to face their challenges and to reach their greatest potential. She was a pillar to her family and an example of strength and endurance. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by one sister, Victoria Harris; and two brothers, Theodore Harris and Thomas Harris. Carol leaves to cherish her memory, two children: a son, Thomas Harris of New Castle, DE and a daughter, Nicole S. Harris of Solon, OH; siblings, Melvin B. Harris, Jr. and Nancy Treco (Harris) both of Dover, DE; extended family, Mack Ridgway, Nora Brooks (Ridgway), Adrienne Hendricks (Ridgway) and Butch Harris all of Dover, DE; uncle, Frank Mayo; aunt, Naomi Mayo of Havre De Grace, MD; grandchildren, Christopher Lee of West Haven, CT, Devon Brown of Solon, OH, whom she helped raise and affectionately called her “Rock,” and Bella Sweet of Solon, OH. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Carol’s presence will be sorely missed...
