Barry Sampson

Barry Arnel Sampson departed this life on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at The Pines in Easton, Maryland. He was 53 years old. Barry was born on April 1, 1961 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge, Maryland to Janice Sampson Rouse and the late Linwood Sampson. He was the eldest of four children. Barry was a graduate of North Dorchester High School’s Class of 1981. After high school, Barry worked for the Eastern Shore Hospital Center Sheltered Workshop in Cambridge, Maryland, and both Con Agra and Harper and Bateman of Hurlock, Maryland. Barry loved the Lord. He was a member of the former Zorah United Methodist Church, in Petersburg, Maryland until its closing, and a member of Hurlock United Methodist Church in Hurlock, Maryland. He loved to sing and had a beautiful bass voice. As a youngster, he and his sisters sang their signature song “Let Me Be There” at local churches. Barry was also a member of the United Gospel Travilliars of Hurlock, Maryland, under the direction of the late Gerald Aldridge. He continued singing throughout his life, and even used it as a form of therapy when his vocal abilities started to fail. In his spare time, Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding on the tractor trailer with his life-long friend and brother-in-law Emerson Elliott Jr., spending time with family, visiting his friends at Channel Markers, and being a jokester. Besides his mother, Janice S. Rouse of Hurlock, Maryland, Barry leaves to mourn, three sisters, Gwendolyn Sampson-Kollock (Michael), Linette Sampson, and Tinya Cephas-Elliott all of Hurlock, Maryland; seven aunts Martha Sampson and Mary L. Stanley of Hurlock, Maryland, Corina Rhodes, Denver, Colorado, Francis Brown, Preston, Maryland, Mary L. Pindell, Annapolis, Maryland, Brenda Gwynn, Greensboro, North Carolina, and three uncles Louis Jolley Sr. and Wilbur Sampson of Hurlock, Maryland, William Stanley (Dorothy), Memphis, Tennessee; three nieces and three nephews; four great-nieces and two great-nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Linwood Sampson, by his step-father Thomas Rouse, and by his daughter Charlene Sampson. He will truly be missed by all.
