April T. Heyliger

On Monday, January 15, 2018, April T. Heyliger, went home to be with the Lord, at the age of 63, at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York. She was born April 14, 1954, in Glen Cove, New York. She was the daughter of the late James and Gloria Johnson. April was employed with Delta Airlines as well as being a great beautician at TNT Barber and Beauty Salon. She attended Hempstead High School in Hempstead, New York. Upon completion, she met and married her husband, Eric A. Heyliger. From this union they had their one and only child, Satika Erica Diamond Heyliger. April later married Oscar W. Adams, then moved her and her daughter to Delaware to start yet another journey. April truly loved and lived life to the fullest, through simple pleasures. She traveled around the world and loved spending time with family and friends. April had such a beautiful smile and a loving and compassionate spirit. She was always the life of the party, knew how to get things going, she had way with people that drew them to her, and with her heart, whether right or wrong, she welcomed them in! She was very fashionable, keeping up with the latest trends, often creating her own trend. She was very classy and wore so much jewelry that she adopted the nickname, “Mrs. T!” She also made the best dishes. She loved good music and a good barbeque. April loved to celebrate her birthday with a big plate of crab legs. She loved many things, but she loved her daughter Satika more than anything! Being that strong independent woman, willing and determined to do things and do them right, she was able to pass those traits down and in the time that the mother/daughter roles were reversed, Satika gave just as much love and strength in return. The bond between these two will never be broken. April was preceded in death by her first and second husbands and her Aunt Burt. She is survived by her daughter, Satika E. Heyliger; two brothers, Russell and Junior Johnson; cousin, Scottie Redix; nephew, Kyle Johnson (Dana); great nephew, Dylan James Johnson; uncle, Joe; mother-in-law, Constance Heyliger; sister-in-law, Debra Heyliger (Ken); step-daughter, Jayde Steele; two step-sons, William Adams and Andrew, and a host of cousins, extended family and friends that loved her dearly. “This too shall pass!” We love you mom!
