Annie Mae Rogers (Taylor)

Obituary Annie Mae Rogers peacefully went to her eternal home on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland at 8:30 pm. Born to the late Willie and Daisy Taylor in 1929, she was eighty-nine (89) years old. She was a lifetime, faithful member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob for over sixty (60) years. Annie worked for years as a laborer at Bountiful Ridge Nurseries in Princess Anne, Maryland and served as a babysitter for the Kemp children—Karen, Robbie, and Anne. She was a surrogate mother to many. Annie enjoyed gardening, quilting, and canning fruits and vegetables throughout her entire lifetime. She often quilted and traveled with her best friend, Dorothy Wright, who preceded her in death in 2017. There weren’t many days you wouldn’t see those two surrounded by swatches of fabric, sewing them together to produce masterpieces. Anyone who knew Annie knew that she was a kind and giving woman whose faith in the Lord never wavered. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and always had a smile on her face. She will forever be missed. Annie was a widow. She was married to Willie Rogers, Jr. for over forty (40) years until his death in 1991. This marriage produced three children—Willie (Sandy) Rogers III from Houston, Texas and Annette Rogers from Dover, Delaware. Her other daughter, Jacqueline Rogers, preceded her in death in 1995. Prior to that, she was married to Clinton Hortage. This marriage produced 5 children—Joyce (Harold) Davenport from Atlanta, Georgia, Clinton (Connie) Hortage from Hull, Georgia and Andrew (Debbie) Hortage from Ohio. She was preceded in death by her son, Willie James Hortage and daughter, Phylis Hortage. Willie and Annie also adopted 4 children—Willie Lee (Ada) Rogers from Salisbury, Maryland and Victor Rogers from Baltimore, Maryland. She was preceded in death by William Rogers, Howard Rogers and Norma Taylor. Annie is survived by two sisters and one brother, Doris (Ervin) Smith from Athens, Georgia, Rosaleen Echols from Oglethorpe, Georgia and Willie (Lula Mae) Taylor from Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert Taylor Sr., and Richard Taylor and two sisters, Mozelle Taylor and Florine Brown. Annie Mae leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends. Annie Mae “Mommom” Rogers will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
