Anna Mae Martin

Anna Mae Martin transitioned peaceably for eternal life with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 20, 2015. She was 81. Born on September 26, 1933 in Ridgely, Maryland to her loving parents, James Claude Martin and Mary Anne Scott(Jim). She was raised by her grandparents Wash and Laura Scott and educated in Caroline County Public School. In 1950, she married Walter Ringgold, Sr. and from this union had six children: Arlene, Margo, Sylvia, Junior, Tweety and Johnny. Divorced and later had one more daughter, Cindy Babes. Raising her seven children as a single parent, she found it necessary to seek employment. She did factory work at Campbell Soup Company in Chestertown, MD, Green Giant in Delaware and Salisbury Brothers in Ridgely, MD. Anna also worked at Kelly's in Denton and in the cafeteria at Denton Elementary School. In her later years, she did domestic work for private families. She was no stranger to hard work, and often worked at more than one job simultaneously to make ends meet; all the while also caring for her sickly mother; but not even that prevented her rendering her services for the Lord. Mom loved her children. Combined, they gave her seventeen(17) grandchildren, thirty-three(33) great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren. She was Godmother to three, Tony Murray, Lynnette Emory, and Tia Boston. She also held the title of Church Mother at Abrams Memorial Church. She was a faithful member at Abrams Memorial Church for sixty-three(63) years and served as Sunday School teacher, church secretary, President of the Youth Department, secretary/treasurer committee at conferences, missionary and church mother. In addition to her maternal grandparents, Wash and Laura Scott, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary(Jim) Martin, two brothers, Charles Henry(Bill) and James(Buddy) Martin, one son, Walter Ringgold, Jr., one grandson, William Ringgold and one great granddaughter, Rockell Jade Mouton. Surviving and cherishing her life's journey are five(5) daughters, Mary(Elwood) Hawkins, Margaret Cummings of Denton, Maryland, Sylvia(Joseph) Mouton of Papillion, Nebraska, Particia (Harry) Woolford, and Lucinda Wright of Denton, Maryland, one(1)son John(Patricia) Ringgold of Edgewood, Maryland, her seventeen(17) grandchildren, thirty-three(33) great-grandchildren and seven(7) great great-grandchildren, her three(3) godchildren, a special cousin, Betty Holmes, one that she admired as a mom, Bishop Esther Murray, one that adopted her as a Mom, Vivian Cabarris, two(2) longtime friends as well as classmates, Peggy Wilson and Joyce Ann Wright, two(2) very special friends, Blanche Reese and Stella Robinson and especially her pastor and First Lady, Elder Thomas and Vivian Fisher and extended family of Abrams Memorial Church, former employers The Gorsuchs' and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Our loss is Heaven's gain for she is Heaven bound and pain free. You did your reasonable service while down here on this earth so for now, Mom, enjoy your sweet rest in the arms of Jesus.
