Warner’ s Journey… Warner Lee Custis, Sr. was born on Saturday, April 2, 1932, to the late Edward Custis and Jennie Finney, in Onancock, Virginia. Warner was the youngest of 13 brothers. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the age of 89 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware. Warner completed grade-school in Onancock, Virginia before moving to Selbyville, Delaware at the age of 15 with his family. In 1952, he married the late Martha S. Smith, and from this union they had eight children. Two children passed away at an early age. Warner started his work-force experience very early in life by doing manual labor and driving 50 years for many companies. The last of many was Mountaire in Selbyville, Delaware where he retired. Warner enjoyed spending time with his family, going out to eat, and watching his favorite baseball team, The New York Yankees. In his younger years he was a very dedicated baseball player himself. His favorite songs were “If I Can’t Say A Word I’ll Wave My Hands” and Walk Around Heaven”. Warner was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Martha Custis; a loving son, Violitus; grandson, Harrison McCray: a step-grandson, Rashaan Rainey; and a granddaughter, Ericka Wright Mairura. Warner leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 25 years, Mable Custis of Frankford, DE; three sons, Warner Custis (Rosalee) of Laurel, DE, Harrison Custis (Michelle) of Frankford, DE, and Richard Custis (Tracie) of Newark, DE; three daughters, Rosa Custis of Millsboro, DE, Martha Kelly of Dover, DE, and Towanda Thomas (Barry) of Lincoln, DE; four stepsons, Rico Turlington (Cynthia), Jose Turlington, Marvis Turlington and Matthew Rainey; three stepdaughters, Flora Turlington, Alisa Turlington and Renee Turlington-Tolliver (John); forty-eight grandchildren; ninety-two great-grandchildren; twenty-six great-great-grandchildren; one very special sister, Mary E. Davis of Florida; two faithful friends, Elder Larry Hopkins and Wayne Manuel; and a “village” of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends. “I Love You All” was his last words. We will all miss his faithful calls!!!
