Celebrating the Life of Thelma Virginia Ballard Kersey Thelma Virginia Ballard Kersey, a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on April 06, 2022, at the age of seventy-eight (78). Born on April 13, 1943 in Somerset County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Viola and Charles Ballard. She was educated in the public schools of the Somerset County school system. Although Thelma held numerous jobs in the area throughout the years, her most important job was being a mother to her eleven (11) children, as well as numerous grandchildren and all the neighborhood children. As an active member of Waters Chapel United Methodist Church in Marion, Maryland, Thelma could be counted on for whatever was needed. She willingly and unselfishly gave of her time and talents to serve the Lord and anyone who was in need. She will be remembered fondly and lovingly for her sense of humor, being a great seamstress and her loving and generous personality. She will greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Thelma leaves precious memories with: her husband of sixty-one (61) years, Ernest S. Kersey, Sr. of Kingston, MD, as well as her eight surviving children—Lydia Peterson, Kaven (Laure) and Tinna and Raymond (Priscilla) Kersey, all of Frederick MD, Carol, Nathan, and Jennifer Kersey, all of Princess Anne, MD as well as Eric Kersey of Hickory, NC; three surviving siblings, Leroy (Leola) Ballard of Laurel, Delaware, Bessie (William) Dickerson of Pocomoke City, MD and Delores (Lionel) James, of Salisbury, MD; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; 2 godchildren, Thelma Douglas and John Gordy, Jr., both of Princess Anne, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by 3 children Ernest, Jr., Nicole, and Margaret Kersey, 2 sisters, Josephine Handy and Shirley Ballard, 3 Brothers, Wesley Ballard, Hewitt Ballard and Calvin Waters as well as her mother and father, Viola and Charles Ballard.
