Sarah’s Life and Legacy... Sarah Theresa Baines, a devout wife, mother, grandmother and great-great grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia. Sarah, named after her mother, was born on December 31, 1925, to the late Sarah Theresa and George Thomas Bradford in Painter, Virginia. Sarah received her education in the Accomack County public schools. She married the late Charles Edward Baines, Sr., in December 1946, and with that union five girls and five boys were born. She was employed with Ballard Seafood of Willis Wharf, Virginia. Sarah accepted Christ early in life, at the age of twelve (12) and became a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Painter, Virginia, under the leadership of Reverend Weaver. She remained a member until her death under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Charles J. Kellam, Sr. While a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, she became a Mother of the Church. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm and her favorite hymn was “I Won’t Complain.” During Sarah’s early years, she enjoyed sewing, cooking and taking care of her family. Her grandchildren will remember hearing her humming in the kitchen while making her famous yeast rolls. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching television and her favorite shows were Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown. When her health or mobility did not permit her to attend church, she enjoyed the Gospel channels where she was able to enjoy the word of God and Gospel music. She enjoyed attending the Senior Services Center and engaging in many senior activities. Sarah loved the holidays and her favorite holiday was Christmas. She would have all the children, grandchildren, family and friends at her home to enjoy a feast that was fit for a king. She will always be remembered for her quiet manner, humbleness and her love of spending time with family. Precious memories of Sarah’s life will be cherished by: nine (9) children— Olivia Baines, Charles Baines, Jr., Albert Baines (Mary) and Doris Reid, all of Painter, VA, Carvies Ayers (David) of Exmore, VA, Morris Baines and Leonard Baines, both of Painter, VA, Sandra Bull (Almer) of Hampton, VA and Jerome Baines of Painter, VA; one son-in-law, Oliver Boggs of Melfa, VA; eighteen (18) grandchildren; twenty-six (26) great grandchildren; twenty-six (26) great great-grandchildren; two nieces, Carella Jubilee (Jose) of Fort Washington, MD and Elaine Taylor of NC; one nephew, Wayne Bradford of Columbia, MD a host of other relatives and friends.
