Orlando J Blackson

Orlando “Snapper” Blackson, 42 of Dover, DE, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God ultimately gave him peace. Orlando was born in Wilmington, DE on August 22,1973. He was the eldest of four children. Orlando was educated in the Smyrna School District. He earned a GED and carpentry certification at Keystone Job Corp in Keystone, PA. Immediately following completion of Job Corp, Orlando began a career in the construction industry that spanned more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Leroy Brooks and Robert English. Orlando is survived by his wife, Faith Blackson; three children: Chioma, Orlando Jr. and Ebere Blackson; his mother, Mary “Carol” Blackson; grandmother, Mary Smith; two sisters, Kendra (Robert) Johnson and Brandy Blackson; brother, Anthony Blackson; two nieces, Shayna and Serenity; two nephews, Najmir and Sebastian; his father, Melvin Smiths; five step-children: Timothy, Austin, Mariyaeh, Serenity and Naveah; one half- brother, Fred; three half-sisters: Betty, Pam and Melissa; three uncles: Jimmy, Roland and Rev. Alan Jones. As a result of his generous spirit and caring personality, Orlando also leaves to cherish his god-father, Larry Woods; god-brothers, Larry Stigers and Jay Johnson; his best friends, Damon Bibbins and Mike” Heazzy” Jackson; a very special friend, Rondrell Heath; along with a host of friends, cousins, etc. Orlando was an avid traveler. He made friends in many places including New York, Texas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Jamaica just to name a few. His love of music began as an elementary school student. He found great inspiration from KRS 1 and Bob Marley. Orlando was blessed with a gift of drawing creativity from real life experiences and expressed himself through music. Early in his career as a Hip Hop Artist he won 1st place in a nationwide contest which aired on national television. He partnered with his Best friend Mike "Heazzy" Jackson to form the group HSDG. Orlando completed his first album “Chow Call" in early 2000. He went on a 3 month tour performing in cities such as Atlanta, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Tampa, NYC, and many other cities in between. Orlando earned a spot as an opening act for Rapper Peety Pablo. He also recorded a single with R&B singer Mya. Orlando has recorded in many well known studios including a studio owned by Hip Hop legend Jam Master J, as well as the Hit Factory in NYC. He was the ultimate Story Teller. He is Hip Hop.
