Mary’ s Journey... Mary Francis Kellam was born on January 16, 1935 to the late Virginia Jones and Milton Ayres. She ascended from an earthly angel to a heavenly angel on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Maryland. She was a blessing in the lives of our family and friends for eighty-six (86) wonderful years. Mary was educated in the public schools of Worcester County, Maryland. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and in her later years, joined Mount Hope Baptist Church in Stockton, Maryland. On September 26, 1968, Mary married the love of her life, Herbert Leon Kellam, and became a wife, mother and a homemaker. One of the greatest joys in her life was being able to take care of her family and to be there for them whenever needed. Momma, as we lovingly referred to her, also enjoyed feeding the neighbors in the neighborhood and babysitting for other families in the community. Mary was an entrepreneur with her husband, selling homemade ice cream, snowballs and subs. She also did seasonal work and was a housekeeper at Quality Inn Motel in Pocomoke, Maryland. Momma was a quiet, humble, modest peacemaker, who loved her children, grandchildren and family unconditionally. She enjoyed making her famous sweet potato pies, potato salad, turnip greens and most of all, those delicious yeast rolls you could smell coming in the driveway. She also loved to shop, decorate for Christmas, collect what-nots, especially farm animal figurines, and eat out at Arbys. Momma leaves to cherish fond memories: four children, Gloria Kellam, Michael Kellam (Bonnie) and Diane Kellam Smith (Preston), all of Pocomoke City, Maryland and Lisa Kellam Boone (Ronald) of Staten Island, New York; six grandchildren, Eric Smith (Kashawn) of Nelsonia, Virginia, Kerstein Richo (Cory) of Crisfield, Maryland, Brad Smith of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Sarah Kellam of Salisbury, Maryland, Vanity Jenkins of Staten Island, New York and Michael Sample of Withams, Virginia; great grandchildren, Amirah Smith, Brayla Smith Caydence Smith, Jason Kellam, Zyen Gumby, Carrie Sledge, Marcus Sledge, Quincy Sledge, Michael Sample, Jr. and Shadonna Sample; one very special sister, Pastor Elnora Wise; nieces, Sylvia Fletcher, Teresa Fletcher, Malinda Wise and Stephanie Wise; nephew, Kenny Wise; great nephew, Aaron Ballard; special family, Betty Justice and Doretha Brown; best friend, Janice Conquest and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Momma was preceded in death by: her husband, Herbert Kellam; mother, Virginia and father, Milton; sister, Mary Lee Adams; brothers, James Albert Tull and Preston Wise; nephew, Archie Wise and great nephew, Shawn Wise.
