Mary Black

Mary Virginia Black, daughter of the late Owen and Daisy Towson, was born Saturday, June 9, 1934, in Melitota, Maryland. She departed this life on Saturday September 28, 2019, at Chester River Hospital Hospice Center in Chestertown, Maryland. Mary was educated in the Kent County School System. On June 11, 1966, she married the late Harrison“Sonny” Black. Together, they raised a loving family of six children. Mary was a longtime employee of Campbell Soup Company. On March 1, 1994, after being dedicated for twenty-one years, she retired from work. She willingly participated in preaching the good news of God’s Kingdom and enjoyed conducting Bible Studies with all who agreed to listen. She continued to be faithful to Jehovah, up to her death. She was a faithful member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, in Chestertown, Maryland. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was a all-time Orioles fan and she like the Ravens, but she loved Tom Brady. Preceding her in death, were: her parents, Owen and Daisy Towson; her husband, Harrison “Sonny” Black; her brother, Owen Towson; sisters, Grace Towson, Beatrice Pinkett and Shirley Pinkett all of Melitota, MD; her son, Arthur Freeman; and her daughter, Shirley Maddox both of Chestertown, MD. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Linda Cann (James Cann) of Aberdeen, MD, Zelda James (Harold James) and James Henry (Shirley Henry) all of Chestertown MD and Charles Harmer (Zandra Harmer) of Vineland NJ; a sister, Bertie Towson of Chestertown MD; a brother, Joseph Towson (Charlotte Potts Towson) of Worton MD; a granddaughter whom she raised, Shawana Johnson of Chestertown MD; Grandchildren, Renotta Jefferson (Damion Jefferson), Latasha Freeman, Donte Johnson (Nekia Johnson), William Cann, Jr., Latonya Blake, NaKesha Henry, Delvon Henry and James Henry all of Chestertown MD, Jamis Cann (Courtney Cann) and Jenelle Cann all of Aberdeen MD, Charles Harmer Jr, Shawn Harmer both of Chestertown MD, Joseph Harmer of Vineland NJ, her great-grandchildren, her great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
