Marie Elizabeth Cropper

This is the story of Marie Elizabeth Cropper, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend who was a wonderful person who is loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Marie’s story starts on June 25, 1930, the oldest child born to the late Rowena Jones Cropper and the late Freeman Water, was born in Pocomoke City, MD She confessed her belief in God in her youth and joined the St. James United Methodist Church in Pocomoke City, MD. She was a faithful member until she was unable, but she did as much could to help. Marie received her formal education through the Worcester County public school system. She was formerly employed at Holly Farms before retiring in 1985. She was united in marriage to Samuel L. Cropper in 1969; he preceded her in death in August 2000. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, listening to music, traveling, shopping, spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends, helping others and serving as a lifetime member of the Maryland VFW Ladies Auxiliary . She enjoyed laughing and always loved to entertain. She was a strong woman who raised eight children on her own and was an inspiration to her fifteen siblings. She was a good mom. On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb and He gently closed her eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine.” With her family at her bedside at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland, Marie bore her illness bravely and was a great inspiration and consolation to all who came in contact with her, especially during her confinement to her sick bed. Loved ones who will miss Marie until they meet again are: her children, Diana Jones of Dover Delaware, Arthur Hemmeian of Pocomoke, Maryland, Larry Hemmeain (Alice) of Delmar, Maryland, Elwood Hemmeian of Millsboro, Delaware, Donald Hemmeain (Gwen) of Fruitland, Maryland, Alphonso Hemmeain (Cherrae) of Jacksonville, Florida, Kenneth Maddox (Deborah) of Sicklerville, New Jersey and Lovetta Richardson of Greenbelt, Maryland; her siblings, Cleola Smith of Westover, Maryland, Oscar Cropper, Jr., Pocomoke, Maryland, Linwood Cropper of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mayola Matthews of Pocomoke, Maryland, Patsy Cropper of Princess Anne, Maryland, Phyllis Pinkard of Pocomoke Maryland, Stanley Cropper of Princess Anne, Maryland, Oliver Brittingham (Louise) of Hampton, Virginia and Gloria Mason of Pocomoke, Maryland Essie Mae Dickerson, New Church, Virginia Olivia Burgan, Atlanta , Georgia; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 1great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relations and friends. Loved ones who left to clear the path for Marie are her parents Rowena Jones Cropper and Freeman Water, husband Samuel Cropper, sisters Gladys Thomas, Delthia Brittingham, Mary Lee Brittingham, Victoria Cropper and Rowena Brittingham and brother Lawrence Copes.
